5000 Miles on Rebuild and I got hit - part out, or keep going?

I have a 2002 A6 2.7T Manual Transmission. Full Engine Rebuild, new clutch, short shifter, Intercoolers, downpipes, KO4s, exhaust, H&R Coil Overs, and everything else that goes along with it. I have about 6,000 Miles on this job and someone rear-ended me and compressed the back to the point that the rear door and trunk won't close properly. The body was the next, and last component to complete the job. Waiting for insurance to let me know what the verdict is, but the body shop told me they would likely want to total it. I guess i have to decide if I am just letting it go for what they give me or try to get them to repair it or try to part it out, or just sell the whole thing for the parts. I guess I am just looking for some feedback on anyone's experience with being this deep into a car. Can't really to wifey about this one :)

Buy it back for the pennies on the dollar the insurance company will sell it back to you for. Take the remaining payout and buy another chassis and swap everything into it.

Or, just let the whole thing go and walk away with whatever payout they decide to give you. If you have receipts, now is the time to sort through them.

i've had 2 cars that i bought back and had them straighten the frame professionally, cars were never the same. i would do as suggested buy another body, one with no rust and swap it out. if the insurance wants too much for the car, then say no go and wait for the auction, at the auction buy it back - don't forget you are the only one that knows anything about the car, the guys at the auction are looking at salvage prices on a 21 year old car, they will be looking at recouping on weight, and on catalytic converters - around here a 21 year old car is generally crushed. of course there could be someone at the auction that wants it for parts and you'll have to fight them for it. something to weigh out anyway. good luck
