    No Crank No Start Help!

    Hi everyone!

I need your thoughts on my no start issue that randomly started happening yesterday. I went to start the car and it cranked for a quick second but did not start. I was surprised as it is unusual for it to do that. So, I tried again and I got no crank. My initial thought was the battery. I have a jump start kit so I popped the hood and right away I smelled a burning scent and some smoke came out from the exhaust side of the engine. At that moment I knew that the jump start kit wasn't going to help but I tried anyway and got nothing. I scanned for codes and got nothing. Now, the car powers up, the radio plays and lights and everything come on but it doesn't crank and doesn't start.

At this point my guess is that the starter has died but I wanted to check with everyone here first and hear your thoughts. Maybe someone had the same issue before. Thanks in advance.

Also, is there a way to get it to start without a working starter? I just want to get it out of the parking garage and into a shop.

Also, given the smoke and the smell, is there a point of going down the rabbit hole of fuses and relays?

starter fried, the braided line that goes from the starter solenoid to the starter. you can of course bump start it if its a manual ( use second when you let out the clutch ). if its an automatic im not sure but i think you are screwed. never tried putting it in neutral on a hill and putting it in drive.. anyone ever tried this ?

Does that mean the braided line needs to be replaced as well or just the starter?

braided line is part of the starter... the starter solenoid is mounted right on the starter as part of it, and the wire runs from the solenoid to the starter. when you get a new starter its the whole assembly, starter, solenoid, braded wire from the starter to the solenoid.

Ok, one more question - is the starter quick and easy to replace if you have access to a lift? I am seeing that it can be done without removing the catalytic converter by going through the passenger side wheel. Is that the case and is that as easy and some make it out to be?
