    $7000 for Rs3 Shocks 63000kms?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have a clunking noise coming from the front of the car at low speeds.

Took it in today at a reputable Indy shop as I suspected something with the suspension so knew CPO warranty would be useless.

Anyway tech says my rear shocks are going and so is the front left, quoted $7000 to repair with OEM. I have mag ride and I guess this is th3 problem lol.

2018, 63000kms on the car does this sound normal? Any advice is welcome! Thanks

welllllll new, oe shocks and struts are about $1000 a piece, $3000 for labor seems a bit optimistic. If you really like the mag ride and want to keep it, buy a used set, ask around in here and also call these guys up : https://autohaasparts.com/ , they currently are parting out 4 RS3's. Another option is to buy a KW mag ride cancel kit ($400) and just have them install Bilstein B8 Performance Plus Shocks and Struts (~$800 for all 4)......which would be my suggestion.

    Cheers

This is the main thing that sucks about mag-ride.

I'm pretty sure an S3 is the same parts, so there are more options to find some used ones. Otherwise as noted you can replace the system with Bilsteins or whatever but you will need cancellers and your suspension won't be adjustable anymore.

I really appreciate it guys, sounds like you’re saving me a boatload of cash, that $7000 is Canadian so probably not far off.

Unreal that the car has such low kms and needs this kind of fix already. I baby the thing…

Are you sure it's not just the strut mounts? How is the dampening feel?

I honestly don’t know, I just hear a clunking noise coming from the front and took it in today.

Let the dealership diagnose it and confirm the source of the issue, then make your decision imo.

On Rock Auto I found OEM magride replacement rear shocks by a company called Arnott. The rears were $387 each. No idea if they are any good, but those are half the cost.

possible, there is no one there in US/Canada who refurbish magnetic ride shocks??
here in Europe we have several companies which can regenerate them and at reasonable costs...

That's what I thought too. Bad shocks shouldn't make any noises. I'm at almost 80,000 km 2018 too, and my shocks are fine. I would definitely have the car checked by another reputable shop though.

Okay I’ll book it in with Glenmore Audi and have them diagnose! 👍🏻👍🏻

A blown shock will definitely make noise, can be anywhere from a knocking to rattling sound, usually in addition to oil leaking onto the strut/shock housing

I had the same issue with blown magride all around. Decided to buy a used set of the iSweep mag ride cancellation kit and Bilstein coilovers. Much better overall!

Went to the dealer, strut mount bearing, they have to do both fronts.

Absolutely nothing wrong with rear shocks. Sounds way more likely since I could hear it coming from front passenger side. Other shop found problems in every other corner lol.🫤

That's likely the issue. Your shocks shouldn't be that bad, especially at your current mileage. Aren't you glad you saved a lot of $$$$? That's why I love forums!! hehe

Well here we go again….did the strut mount bearing on the noisy side and the drivers side since both had to be done if one was gone….noise still there, shock is next….

did you ever got this fixed, I'm having the same problem, Audi dealer says it is the front struts.

Glad to see this thread still moving. I took my RS3 in about 45 days ago for a clunk sound coming from my front right. Shop thought it was just the strut mount, I replaced both, turns out it was the struts too. Replaced both front struts. Drives great now but they did go with the Arnott(?) kit on FCP Euro. Not as good as stock struts but far cheaper. Plus, I have 132k miles on my car. The new OEM's would probably outlast the vehicle anyways lol.
