2000 to 1998 facelift interior swap

How’s it going, I’m finally about to start building my project b5 to my custom liking. I will be doing a BT build(i have the parts for a 1.8t but i found a cheap running 2.7), BBK, 01e swap, facelift interior/exterior,reupholstery, everything pretty much. I have two complete cars a donor 00 fwd 5spd a4 and a 98 tip quattro a4 which will be receiving all the goodies. Before i begin ik it might be wiser to try and find a better condition facelift s4 or a4, however they’re pretty rare in south texas and this gives me the opportunity to spec out the car like i always wanted. I got both cars for 1300$ and have been collecting parts for about a year now, now its actually time to start working on it. I will be documenting my progress as it goes, although it might be months before its complete. Doing the swap is not an issue as i work in a shop, i even have access to a lift, and i’m in no rush since its not my DD. Since there is way more knowledgeable people in this forum

what are some things i should know? Should i swap over the interior harness from the 00(can-bus,double din) over to the 98( no can bus)? Any parts that i should keep from my 98 a4?

Now a bit of my reasoning for the swap. Trying to find a decent b5 that is close to the spec i want is nearly impossible locally unless i get one shipped from another state( i live in the 956, el valle its all trokitas here. The black one is quattro and not fwd like the gray one, but the gray one has the facelift interior and its a cooler two tone gray( the tan inserts will be redone in black or a pattern). Lastly the engine was going to be redone anyways and i was going to 01e swap anyways, which works out because the tip quattro is a v6 so it already has the mounts and diff all i need is trans and driveshaft(gray will provide manual swap bits like the pedals). I know this is a big project and i appreciate any help or criticism i can get from you guys thank you.638A8D92-630E-442F-B7C3-A3D1DD3A3DB1.jpg

You should 100% start with a facelifted car, you will regret building the 98 over a facelifted one. You want the modern interior wiring and wideband ecu forsure in your project car because its a huge upgrade over the old shit

Is there any reason i couldn’t put all the wiring and everything from my gray facelifted audi to the black one? They were both complete running and driving cars, so all components and wires are there. As far as a wideband ecu, i already have a me7.5 ecu,02 sensor, and gauges(afr, boost), and new harness.

I’m still looking for a 00 or 01 quattro if someone has one in south texas. There’s one nearby but its a 00 2.8l and the owner wants like 3-4k

I'm pretty sure its a Pain in the ass to do that interior harness swap because prefacelift are not canbus and facelift are canbus, its do-able though but I think you have to swap the entire dash unit all the way over to glovebox.

Yeah that was the plan anyways. I’m swapping over all my door cards and center console pieces and i want the dash to match the darker gray. I’m also going dbw from dbc although i wish i could keep the dbc.

I mean like the whole entire dash unit, all the heating stuff underneathe/ac/radio controls/etc, not just the top part, its a big job. And you probably gotta pull the carpet out to swap the interior harness.
