Coilovers, which of these would be best…

ST Coilovers with fixed dampening, Vogtlands, or BC racing. Does anyone have recommendations?

Which one is most comfortable for a daily driver? I live in NY and the roads aren’t exactly runway tarmac, so I’d value a comfortable ride most.

My vote goes for ST. Why not get the adjustable dampening?

Is it worth the extra $200? In all honesty I’m oblivious to what adjustable dampening does

Adjustable damper means that you can stiffen or soften the ride depending on situation or track conditions.

ST is a quality product, the other two are likely cheap Chinese. (I know BC is Chinese).

Dampening adjustability provides a great advantage in dialing in the ride to your preference. Def worth it. Basically it changes the behavior of your shock to be more / less firm.

How low are you looking to go? Carry lots of ppl / cargo? These will be deciding factors as well.

BCs have the option for a Swift spring upgrade which is a huge improvement over the standard BC springs. Wicked in the corners. Dampers are lower end, prone to being bouncy and will expire faster, esp on your roads. But they're dampening adjustable F/R so that helps out a lot. Def a more sporty option here. Bonus, they're completely rebuildable.

ST's have a super compliant ride quality but can get a bit out of their depth under aggressive turns in corners. Compliant springs and quality dampers. XA kit has dampening adjustable fronts and possibly rears? (Certain ST kits only offer for the front.) Can't go wrong here.

Vogtlands are similar to ST although more firm and sporty. Depending on ride height will def effect quality with these (IMO more than other kits) so you need to find a sweet spot. If you're not looking to go super low you'll be fine.

I have the vogtlands which are from Germany. they ride nicer than my wife’s rs3 with stock fixed suspension. My only issue is the sedan version rear springs are too soft so opt for the avant version instead. I bought the rears from vogtland separately but haven’t put them in yet.

I ran the ST coilovers for about 60K miles before I replaced them with the BC Racing ones. Used both for daily driving. The first thing I noticed from going stock to ST coilovers was how bouncy the ride became, especially the rear end. The BC coilovers had more of a firm ride but in a good way. My only complaint on those was that the rear would sag if there were passengers in the rear or stuff in the trunk. The ST coils didn't really sag in the rear.

One thing to note on any coilovers.

Try to find a set that you can adjust ride height independently from spring preload.

Meaning there should be an adjuster for spring tension AND an adjuster for ride height.

    Solowerks all day!

Dampening is cool and all but realistically how often do you feel you'd be changing settings?

Once you start going low your gonna change your driving habits in general to avoid dips and bumps.

These the ones to get? ^

Also what do you mean by “soft”, is there excessive bounce in the rear?

I replied to your pm, I did order from urotuning and by soft it would rub with the sedan springs on an aggressive turn or with someone in the back seat.

+1 for vogtland. Just refreshed with a new set after running them last for 5 years. Been super happy with the ride quality, and the customer service is solid. Blew out one a few years ago after hitting a monster pothole and they replaced under warranty without any question.

I have to agree. I switched out my adjustables and installed Solowerks all around including the springs and the ride is so much better. I have about 1.5" drop. Looks and drives great!

If I had to take a wild guess, KW probably makes the springs for them. I have the H.A.S from KW and they also are too "soft".

Had the Vogtland's in my B5 S4 and liked them

Great point, always forget about this. BC and Bilstein have this... KW? Who else?
