    Sport Differential Malfunction

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
2nd day of driving my new car ('21 s4) and got a message on my dash "sport differential malfunction, please contact service." while cruising around 60 mph in individual with sport driving and the middle suspension options on. turned the car off for about an hour and same thing popped up around the same speeds. dont believe it was caused by any bumps or sharp turning just cruising straight. I drove it again later in the day at lower speeds (45-50mph) and did not receive the warning. has anyone else experienced this or have any insight? it's a CPO with only 17k miles. a coworker of mine who used to work in Audi servicing said it's probably just a censor or gear oil so that's what im hoping. would hate for something major to be wrong after just getting the vehicle. currently have a service appointment at a local dealer on the 24th

It's pretty random guess without a scan and an actual DTC code. It's still under new car warranty, so not too much concern there. Let the dealership fix it. But you want to know what the actual error code and corrective action was. This early, would wonder if it'll become a consistent.

Bumping this thread as a cry for help lol. Ive had it taken in to my local dealership multiple times now with module replacements, etc. and nothing seems to be able to stop the dash error im receiving. Does anyone have any advice? The next step they say will to be completely replacing the rear diff. Im not sure how that would impact the longevity of the car. If anyone knows any techs/former techs to give me some guidance anything would be appreciated

You still haven't posted any scan log or DTC, so how is anyone to have any idea what the car is saying is wrong with it?

Well, start with the service record, maybe they recorded in the text what code they were working off of. But usually they do not.

    https://www.audiworld.com/forums/s4-...fault-2833418/
That's an example from a B8 S4 using VCDS. The dealership uses a different tool (ODIS), but generates the same type information.

If it's a '21, it's still under warranty. Just take to the dealership and have them fix whatever it is. But you say that keeps producing failure. Time to give Audi USA a call and ask them why their chosen business partners are so incompetent.

But here in the forums, we need that scan log type of information to have any guess at what your car is complaining about.
Either buy a HEX-V2 cable from Ross Tech or an ODBeleven device from VoltasIT, or even get Carista just so you can read the DTCs.

Autozone used to offer a free scan. They plug a scanner into the OBDII port and the device lists the car's system fault codes. They're not expensive and good to add to the toolbox.

AZ freebie scan is a generic OBD-II mode scan. It'll only pick up DTCs that have a generic OBD-II code. And may or may not find DTCs in non-standard control modules like the J187 (32-diff locks). Actually, that's part of the question. Is the error from the J187, or from the J775 (74-chassis control)? Better to get a scan that's in the form the community you're working with expects.

If you're going back to the dealer, have them scan the car and give you past/present trouble codes related to the relevant modules. Trouble codes are read with a scan tool, people were assuming you have an adequate scan tool (i.e. OBDEleven is very new user friendly) and could provide them with the diagnostic data from the relevant modules. If the dealer is claiming to fix it you really need to stay on them to figure it out. We can try to help you with ideas if you can share what they've been replacing and what codes they've been seeing when scanning the vehicle.
