    Different tire sizes?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I blew out the two passenger side tires running over a pothole. Covered under tire warranty but they put on different tires than what came with the car. The ones I had on originally are Hankopk Ventus S1evo3 285/30ZR22. The ones they put on are the same but sized 285/35R22. They moved both of the stocks to the rear and put both new ones in the front. Should I be concerned other than they look different? Thx

Probably just as much as is anything else if you're under warranty for part A and get a replacement with part B. Just because it's same brand shouldn't justify getting a different product.

Besides, it might potentially throw things off like your speedo reporting less correct speed etc.

Any problem with the larger tires being in front?

If you drive and there is no rubbing and sufficient clearance, you're probably fine. Those are obviously bigger but not by too much.

ITs not a good thing to have different tire size for the quattro. It will cause strain and its not something any tire or dealer place should ever do... Unless the car has staggered wheels the tire dimension must fit the same rolling diameter. Take it back and have them remove the bigger tires and put the correct size. It will look weird too. Im shocked that they did that.. Theres the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires which you can get in a set of 4 from tirerack. Smoother and great ride over the hancooks.

IF you replace the front two tires with same size and the current rear ones are still new and not worn you will be much better than a bigger set in front. Not worth the risk damaging the drivetrain etc. Wont be covered by Audi.

    Thank you. They’re replacing them.

I had Michelin Pilot Sport 4s on my AMG GT63. That was a much bumpier ride than my RS7 but that’s likely more due to Mercedes than the tires. What I really didn’t like about them is they only lasted 8-10k miles. How long are your’s lasting on your RS7/RS6?

So far they are super smooth at all speeds and I have about 10k on them and still 70% left. I do switch to winters from Dec-March though but its will be 2 years this coming March since I got them mounted. I run the PSI at 37 for these tires and they are not harsh or bumpy. The RS7 suspension is a marvel.

How does the tire and wheel warranty work here? My service dealer made it sound like it only covers the damaged wheel and/or tire(s). When I asked about the replacing in pairs and quattro tread variance tolerance just basically got a shrug. Wouldn't blowing up the diffs from only replacing a single tire...under an Audi warranty program... result in Audi being on the hook for the differential repair?

What's the alternative? Around the corner from dealer put some holes in all tires and roll in that way so all four get replaced? Seems as bad as not replacing tires per the manufacturer recommendations using a manufacturer offered warranty product.

That's a 4% difference, and generally the max acceptable difference with Quattro. I, personally, would not accept that, especially having paid for the warranty. If they can't find the matching OEM size, then they should provide all four in the same size. Fact is, they're not going to care when you have drivetrain issues and you're out of warranty, so you should care now that this may cause them down the road. My .02.
