    B9.5 A4 40TFSI Tuning Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

I have the smaller engine model of the B9.5, I was wondering how ECU tunes worked with it since I see most of them being advertised for the 45 TFSI

Not sure I've seen anything advertised for the A4 40 TFSI engine - it was sold on cars with what I view as emphasis on economy and price point; not the typical market for folks looking for more power. Suggest you will have to contact the major tune companies yourself and see if they are planning anything but doubt there has been much demand for that tuning option.

40 and 45 are both 2.0 liter. The 40 uses the 45 as a basis, but then changed the cylinder head design around to implement the miller cycle (b-cycle); VVL is on the intake, not the exhaust, etc. As such, it's different enough from all the other EA888 before it. And as mentioned, it's sold as the economy focus, not the performance focus. As such, "Smaller exhaust turbocharger, adapted thermodynamics" and "Reduced main bearing diameter".

It also went back to Bosch MED 17, such as used on the B8 Gen2 engine, rather than the Simos software of the Gen3 (B8.5, not in NAR) and Gen3 evo (the "45" engine). So there's probably little to none in the way of off the shelf tunes for it. But like any engine, sure a custom tuner could try and see what can be done with it if you're paying them.

I just went through this exercise with the tuning companies myself on the 45. JB4 is the only game available now. APR does not have the ability to do an extraction on these newer ECU’s yet…? Sucks.

Did you have any issues with JB4 on the B9.5 40? I just tried it on Map1 and it kept on giving me CEL.

Appears they have different units for the different engines, but I don't see a Gen4 b-cycle one:

    Gen3 evo (CYMC) - https://burgertuning.com/collections...l-audi-porsche
    Gen3 b-cycle (DBPA) - https://burgertuning.com/collections...up-8-jb4-gen3b
    Gen4 evo (DPAA) - https://burgertuning.com/collections...61hp-and-265hp
    Gen4 b-cycle (DMSA) - n/a

Gen4 replaced Gen3 starting MY21. Gen4 is the 12v MHEV update, with some other minor tweaks, to the Gen3.

Unfortunately for the B9.5 platform only the S4/S5/SQ5 ECU has been cracked. The A4/A5/Q5 still waiting for tunes. I check for a buddy of mine all the time. He got the B9.5 because he heard how much I liked my B9. He still likes it but I don't think he likes me running circles around him on the road.

I bugged Arin on another forum a few weeks back and he advised they had cracked the ECUs but they were rolling on tunes for the transverse platforms (A3/GTI/S3/R) first. My Allroad is due in May so I'll give them until August before blowing up his inbox since I'm going to have to work on the suspension first and foremost to get it off stilts anyway.

Would be nice if they still sold the avant in the US. Or as they say in the UK an estate version of the A4. I can't get enough Car Wow on Youtube.
