    Coolant Leak from top of radiator help - B8 A4 2.0T 2009

    Hello everyone,

Went to pickup meds for my pupps, 15min drive. Got back into car and it had radiator light on and said something like stuck valve turn car off.
Turned it off right away popped the hood and found a coolant leak. Needed to get home, open the coolant box and found nothing, walked to Esso and got the only coolant they had and filled half the 4.7L bottle to get to max.
Drove home slowly and popped hood again and you can clearly see where leak is from.
Going to wait for engine to cool but is it simply a clamp?

Connection of 11 to the radiator. Hopefully, it's just the o-ring in the hose 11. And not an issue with the port on the radiator itself.

Certainly worth dismounting and inspecting and seeing if it just needs to be reseated.

    How do I install this?
Is there a special clip or pressure point I need to press to remove the old one from the radiator?

Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry up the silver clip (found at both ends). It has a detent position to hold the clip while open, but they tend to get sprung when you pop the hose off, and they fly anywhere. Best to remove and set aside (just lift the clip over the detent protrusion with your fingernail or the flathead). The hose will likely require a bit of jiggling as you pull straight back to remove.

If the new hose did not come with clips, insert your old clips. The clips should be fully inserted before pushing the hose onto its connections. A firm push will yield two clicks as the two sides of the clip snap over the clip retaining edge on the radiator and coolant reservoir tank. Done, except for the coolant fill.

Some of this comrade's work is pretty sketchy, but you get the idea. He also did oil work (oil cooler) - you won't need and can skip over those parts.

    Thank you everyone!!
I replaced the Expansion Tank Upper Hose.
Removed all the coolant in the reservoir and found some black floaters (Photo below). So I tried to flush the tank by filling it with the cheap coolant and taking it out. Then filled in the correct G12 to the Max Line - (Audi VW Engine Coolant - Genuine VW G12E0501GDSP).
I drove for about 10min, 5min slow for engine to warm up then 5min with a very heavy foot. Got back opened the hood and NO LEAKS! BUT the coolant level was all the way up, I pulled out 220ml to bring it back to Max. I'm going to wait for everything to cool down and see if it goes to Min or lower. Any ideas? Or is that normal?

I'm guessing you didn't have the heater cranked up when you did the fill?

After the initial coolant fill, and with the cap still removed from the coolant reservoir tank, start and idle the engine with the heat and fans cranked up to max. You'll see the coolant level in the reservoir tank go down and bubble come up as the air is being bled from the heater matrix. Keep adding coolant until the level in the reservoir tank holds steady.

It is better to use distilled water to flush the system rather than a non GS12 or GS13 coolant. One jug (2.5 Gal) from they grocery store should do it. Add another jug for mixing your GS12 or GS13 coolant. (I use the empty jugs to collect oil and coolant and transport to the recycler.)

If you think there might be a bunch of the cheap coolant still in the system, you might consider another flush with distilled water.

Here is info about VW/Audi coolant, including a video:

Thank you! I'll try to do a flush next weekend.
This is the stuff I put when I was in a panic. https://www.owi.com/retail/brands/pe...r-all-vehicles

I checked the car now when it was cold and it was exactly halfway between min and max. I turned the car on and put on the max heat and fan on max with the coolant tank open for 10min. Level didn't change.

Known leak, rear of coolant reservoir

New here, first post. Not to hyjack thread just not real familiar with forum yet.
I have 2017 Audi A 4 ,fwd, premium plus S series. Coolant is leaking from behind reservoir at the top. At the clamp where it attaches from “T” Shaped flange to reservoir. Just not sure what to order(coolant diagram is not clear, to me)

Audi refers to vehicles and vehicle generations by "type". The Internet refers to them by "B", "C", "D" terms. This relates to the vehicle size segment (old euro terminology) and used to relate to the platform identification (20+ years ago).

    For US A4:
    type 8K = MY09-MY16; B8.0 = MY09-MY12; B8.5 = MY13-MY16
    type 8W = MY17-current; B9.0 = MY17-MY20; B9.5 = MY21-current

So your MY17 A4 would be a B9.0, not a B8.5. This would not be true of an A5 or Q5, where B8.5 went through MY17 and B9.0 started with MY18.

The 8W coolant reservoir is quite different from the 8K coolant reservoir, as is the tubing of the coolant system.
