Question SQ8 Build - Dealer Screw Up

    Hi all-
    New user to this site!

Question for the Q8 owners out there (or really any Audi owner)....I put a deposit in on a SQ8 in Fall 2021, and just received notice this weekend that the car is finally in the US and headed to me. I also received a PDF of the window sticker from the dealer, at which point I realized it was built with the wrong interior leather color. I ordered black, and it got built with Rotor Gray

Obviously I am incredibly frustrated, and the dealer said my original order on the '22 model was input correctly, but when they switched the model to a '23 due to production delays, the sales mngr typed it in with grey instead of black. I now have to sit back and hope I like the gray interior once I see it in person, otherwise I build a new one and wait 12+ mos. They checked other available SQ8's around the country and they claim the unsold ones all have rotor gray interiors as well. I got the custom Nardo Gray paint, so the gray interior could look good, just not what I as expecting.

My questions for everyone out there is this:

    - does anyone have pictures of their SQ8/RSQ8 with the rotor gray leather they can share??
    - has anyone else experienced a massive screw up like this with an order, and what was done to make up for it? my dealer offered to tint the windows for free....which doesn't begin to touch the problem in my opinion...

    Thanks!

Personally I need to have full black interior in all my cars. Rotor gray is too light. Plenty of pics in Google to see.
Only option would be to find/order a new Sq8 for me or purchase something else.

Window tint doesn't seem like near enough to make up for it. On my C7 S6, I got 5k off sticker, full window tint, ceramic coating, and all season tires just to close the deal and there were no screw ups to make up for. And I know you're frustrated and really want it, but I also know from experience multiple times not to settle for something that isn't 100% what you want. You'll be forever thinking how much better it would have been and you'll regret it.

This right here OP and your out is the remainder of your original post that I quoted.

I can’t help with images or a similar story, but will say that you have all of the power here, if you can be patient, and honestly you should stick to your guns with your original order. The sales manager screwed up as you say, so I would go give the interior a look but would refuse to take it with anything short of 10-15% off. I’m sure thats a lot of cash but someone needs to be more careful and not expect you’ll just be cool with spending $120K+ to not get what you ordered on top of the 18 month wait. Sure, they can tell you to beat it but there’s no way you should be out your deposit or any money at this rate for the dealers lack of attention.

Let them sweat the sale of the high priced RS if all they’ll concede is ~1% of the value of the car.

Sorry to hear. We ordered Daytona/Arras sq8 December 2021 and like yours it was changed to a 2023 (Msrp increased) and it arrived as ordered December 2022. The wait sucked and I can’t imagine waiting for another, in fact I almost gave up. I wouldn’t take the car and would search for a slightly used rsq8 that is close to your new car price.

Not Audi, but pertains to what your going through…..

Some years back I had wanted a CTSV and had a couple colors in mind, but specifically wanted black interior. Dealer tells me that one of the colors I wanted, Thundergrey was coming in and had the interior I wanted. When I went down to look at the car, the interior was titanium (not the color interior I wanted). CTSV seats which were Recaro’s, the outside edges were leather and middle portion was alcantara. After going back and forth, I felt the interior would be fine and bought the car. As much as I loved the car which I no longer have, the interior color always bothered me. My kids were young at the time so I always worried what they had on them to rub off on the interior. Also, I was always concerned taking it in and the seats getting dirty because someone forgot to put a cover over the seats. Stressed me out all the time…l..damn ocd.

At least with the Audi, the seats are all leather so a bit easier to clean should you get something on them and stays a bit cooler in the summer.

I have an SQ8 in Daytona Gray with the Rotor Gray interior and I love the color combination and have received a lot of compliments on the interior color. I can understand why some people may prefer a black interior, kids, stains etc, when it arrives have a look, you may like it either way don't let them off easy if you decide to keep it have them do a full XPEL wrap as compensation.

WOW that was a long wait. What did you decide to do. Did the rotor gray grow on you?
