P01E600 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 3 Circuit high / Which Sensor is means?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

it was 2 weeks ago, I got MIL with P01E600 circuit high / short circuit to plus (still present). Firstly sporadically, now present and cant be deleted.
Engine themperature ist not too high, there are no problems, except of this code and MIL.

Ok, there are G62, G82, G83 and G694 Sensors. WTF, which one is "Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 3" ?

I unplugged G83 at Radiator outlet and got code with "Engine coolante Sensor 2".
Then I unplugged one an the right side of oil filter. Ok, I got Code with G62 (strange, I thought there is G82 on this place).
After unplugging of one in the left head I got code with "cylinder head temperature sensor".
But not with sensor 3 I was serching for.

Does anyone have an idea where is this mystical "sensor 3"? I have no clue more...

    Thank you!

Using a real life pic, if I had to guess:

Thank you, I know this technical self study programme, I have it too. But I don't have any idea what is this "sensor 3". Fault code is a little tricky without description of N-Sensor. I think I'll unplug all the sensors and look. Really strange.

I'd assume it's the one you've not played with yet, the G694. So as to where is your mythical last sensor, that's what the pic was for.

yes I´ll try it, but its a little difficult to get access to G694 :D

And the ERWIN manuals are a little different and the positions of sensors are not the same as in the technical self study programme. I still dont understand is it G82 in the left cylinder head or not, the pics are so bad.

None of them are in the left cylinder head from the live engine image I posted. The G694 is in the right cylinder head from what I see, and seems to be the same as shown in your first linked image. The G62 and G82 are in the top of the block. Look at the live engine image I linked. Your second linked image seems to be the G82.

The SSPs are usually before the actual stuff comes out, so while a good starting point, don't take them as absolute references. But they seem to be spot on here.

The manual process for each seems to be nothing more than "unplug/unscrew/remove", except the G694, where it starts with remove oil filter housing. But do you need to do that just to unplug it, no idea.

The G694 takes all of about 2 seconds to unscrew.. it’s literally on top of the engine, next to the N75 solenoid.

You don’t need to remove the oil filter housing.

Yeah, no idea why they would say remove the oil filter housing for the G694, but there it is documented in the workshop manual, at least the old copy on cardiagn. For the 2.9T, it says nothing about the oil filter housing. I'm convinced Audi employed substantially substandard people for the B9 era documentation; the quality and organization is complete crap compared to B8 era manuals. If anything, the G82 would be impacted by the oil filter stand (since the G82 is right next to it), not the G694.

I think its not G694 on the right bank near N75. Its probably G765, engine straud temperature sensor, ans it is not mounted in the head or engine.

It looks like one of sensors is really behind of the oil filter housing, very difficult to see it without removing.I´ll take a look after a business trip.

I've marked on the engine image where the three coolant temp sensors are mounted.

The G765 is not on the engine block/heads; it is in the neighborhood of the G694, I guess. SSP 655 page 39 shows its location pretty clearly.

Looks like the G765 is going to have a black plastic frame for the bolt hole: https://allegro.pl/oferta/audi-s5-f5...501-7537644704
While the three coolant temp sensors use a metal frame for the bolt hole: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...er/079919523j/

Apart from the two split between the engine block and the engine head (both on the right bank), there isn’t a 3rd sensor other than the radiator outlet sensor and the G765.
