Why isn't the cooling filter change standard for DSG service?

The last indy shop that did my DSG service didn't change the cooling filter. Just got quoted by a different indy shop this time around and it's the same deal. They said the cooling filter is usually not changed.

Why is it that I've read on the forums that it is a standard part of the service? Is changing it worth the extra cost?

From what I’ve seen the internal filter in pan is the only one with no recommended service. I found pictures online from two different people that cut the pan filter open and it looked new inside. It seems the external does 90% of the filtering.

Oh ok interesting, thanks for the perspective. So sounds like it really may not be necessary.

I just wonder why all the posts I've seen say it needs to be replaced.

Because a lot of people quote unrelated materials because they are unaware of all the specific details. There's no point opening up the transmission to mess with the internal filter unless you're already in there for some reason. Just going to make more issues than you're going to solve.

There's also two different versions of the external filter:

item 9, >MY10, not serviced when ATF is changed (inline metal cylinder), unless the ATF "is very dirty", or anytime gearbox is renewed
item 18, MY11>, serviced anytime the ATF is changed, or anytime gearbox is serviced

Why not just service the MY10 one at ATF change anyway? Not at that kind of pricing: https://www.genuineaudiparts.com/oem...ose-8k0317823b
