    Haldex pump failure

    2015 Q3 Quattro 71.5 k miles.

We have owned this car since new and took it regularly to our selling dealer for service as we purchased a 70k service plan. At around 40k miles, I noticed a mild judder on the 2-3 shift. No dash warning lights. I brought it in specifically for a check and was told there was nothing wrong. I mentioned it again at the 50k and 60k services and each time was told there was nothing wrong. The car was otherwise driving normally, albeit not very hard or much in poor traction conditions.

About two weeks ago, on startup I get an ESC warning and TPMS warning light. I checked tire pressure at all four corners and they are all within spec. Scanning shows 01324 and 01325 codes indicating communication errors with the all wheel drive (J492) and TPMS control modules (J502).

Since the car is out of the service / warranty period I took it to my indie who diagnosed a failed Haldex pump. Not too bad a repair, about $250 for the part, $40 for diff fluid, and two hours of shop time. I have probably been driving without rear wheel traction for years, but just posting my experience for others who might get these dash warnings.

Prior to this issue, have you ever changed the Haldex fluid and cleaned the filer screen of the pump?
Audi dealer service never includes this in the maintenance schedule.......

what is not said directly but the fluids should be changed no more than 25k miles intervals. if I had a home garage I could use, I would change it every other oil change I do. the fluids break down so fast with OEM. with audi doing their scare tactic of stating using outside brands will cause trouble, I have not ventured into trying out other better brands. price is not my issue but making sure I don't have breakdowns as that will be more costly.

as for you haldex issue, it might not be due to the oil. was there metal in the fluid?

what I have found out with electronic damage in audi is because of old batteries. i have changed out my battery and found the electronics work way better. with the stock my mmi would freeze up or just not work right. i can imagine the other electronics will have issues as well.

This is very interesting as I don't think the dealer ever did the service on my 2015 Q3. I do remember the car having a hard time in the snow even with the winter tires, will need to do this service and check the pump. As of right now no error lights or codes on the dash but i was thinking that the system should be more active than it is right now.

FWIW, its as easy as drain and fill, then take the haldex pump out and clean the filter with brake cleaner, just gotta make sure you have the car leveled when filling it back up.
