Dealer driving your car question during service

    Hi all,

Do any of you/have you asked your dealer NOT to test drive the car when in for service? Is this a reasonable ask or am I just being overly sensitive? Last time I took it in for an oil change at 1000 miles, I said that's all I wanted but didn't specifically say not to drive it, but it was really clean, and I asked for them not to wash it. It comes back with bugs on the front, and could tell from my fuel gauge that he had a fun time. That pissed me off.

Just wanted to hear your experiences/thoughts, as i'll be bringing it in for 5k miles soon, and really don't see why they would have to drive it....

    Thanks!

I think a normal road test is fine and may be required in my cases. Flooring it out of the parking lot and drifting around corners is another story.

I saw the technician pull out of the lot when I was in for an oil change. He was back in a couple of minutes so I think he just went around the block. Technically a road test is part of Audi’s service procedure. High speed bug spatters are another matter.

Another thing that you can do is set a speed alert in the MyAudi app. If the car goes over a set speed, say 40MPH, it will send you a push notification when the vehicle went above that speed and another notification once the vehicle goes below that speed.

Yes, this is a handy feature in the app if one valet's or allows offspring to 'borrow' the car.

Personally I have no issues with the service team needing a 'road test' as long as they are respectful

An anecdotal story: back in 2015 had a E92 M3 that required some work. Service rep (whom I didn't know at the time) said he needed to keep it overnight and do road test to ensure issue was resolved. It sounded so sus. In the end I said as long as he was the one driving it and that I trusted he would ensure issue was fixed once and for all I was ok. Service issue was fixed and never came back. In the end we developed a great understanding and this service rep would give me the inside scoop all the time. Factory ordered a 2017 M3 from that dealership because of the relationship with the service department there.

Shouldnt be difficult to request for such. Sometimes they need to test drive if everything is ok before giving back to the customer. Normal drive is ok, but driving hard is a no no for me.
