    Headlight Range control NOT DEFECTIVE

OK so I have searched the forum and all I find is for DEFECTIVE range control. I adjusted the front elevation screw yesterday on my left headlight and it triggered the warning light on my dash for Headlight Range Control. But i know its not defective because it was just working and it only happened after i adjusted it. I tried resetting it by disconnecting the battery and nothing. I even tried clearing the code. Is there anyway to reset this damn thing without requiring a VAGCOM?

Check the motor wires inside the headlight, they fail very often and short together. I presume they are xenons? What happens if you bring the adjustment knob back to where it was, maybe it can be put out of range and thus signal an error. Are your control arm leveling levers intact?

From my understanding, any adjustment to the light position will need to be programmed afterwards.

From what I remember you need to put it into adjustment mode, adjust your headlights and then learn the position in the module.

Yes they are xenons, I put the screw back to its original position and still nothing.

If you do not have access to VAGCOM to reset the headlight level & warning light; you can get rid of the cluster error message by just removing the panel fuse for the headlight level motor and revert to having non-auto-leveling headlights. (not a feature that I miss at all).

    Either VCDS or VAG yes.

I replaced my carriers with a set of xenons this summer and have been throwing a code for a dipped headlight ever since, When I looked into it basically any change to position needs to be set in the programming. So it's annoying but I've decided to just live with it for now.

I remember having an issue with this one time on a previous car. If you're lowered, look up the learning procedure on ross tech and follow it in vcds. Lift the driver's side of the car a bit w/ a jack to make the car think it's in oem position and run the calibration in vcds.
