Geez this doesn’t look great for the vag 2.0’s especially after having such a massive piston ring issue in the B8’s.

It's an issue specific to the con rods produced in Mexico for the DPVA engine (Q5 variant of the EA888 Gen4 evo) produced in Mexico for the Q5, not a general issue with the EA888 Gen4 evo design. The Gen2 piston rings were a complete design fail on Audi's part, go go bean counter cheapness. The rods were also used in VW SUVs I assume also produced in the same location.

Reminds me of the days when they were putting in rings upside down at the Mexico plant

VW puts about 30 variations of the EA888 2.0t in over 50 cars worldwide.

    3 models over 2 years isn’t that big of a deal…

Valid point. Tbh I didn’t read the recall before I commented. I assumed it would be a much more widely spread issue

I completed the recall check on this and my engine ate itself 3 days later. Had some serious rod knock and loss of power. Sounded likes rocks rolling around under the hood.

I assume it would be a new engine as I was told they were on back order. I didn’t stick around and wait though. Gave them back the Q5 and got an SQ5. I think if it’s going to happen, it’ll do so early in the engine’s life. And, it seems to negatively effect very few people so not a huge thing in the big picture.
