    B6 S4 Cabriolet undercarriage/subframe diagrams? 2005 4.2 with Automatic.

Does anyone have or know where to find diagrams for a CONVERTIBLE AUTOMATIC 2005 B6 S4 4.2L subframe/undercarriage mount points?

I’m trying to pull the engine and can’t get quite enough clearance to get the engine/tranny out. I’m CLOSE, but no cigar.

I think I just need one or two inches more space and that by dropping the subframe a bit should be able to get it out.

Everything I can find seems to be for sedans with manual tranny’s.

    Thanks for any help!

    Russ

Edit: I guess my real question is where/what should I disconnect to get some slack?

Sorry about the weird orientations in the photos! They looked great on my PC before uploading them.

IIRC the subframe needs the bolts to be removed as well as them being one time use. I really want to say the subframe does need to be fully removed but I'm really don't remember.

Did you get the 2 top bolts removed?

I loosened them only at this stage. Hoping to not have to replace those bolts! You really think I should?

I think I've found my problem... I was following TotalTechnik's video on removing a B6/B7 video. They were doing a manual tranny. But had side by side shots of a manual vs automatic and made a comment that threw me off: "You only need to undo the ball and joint socket for the automatic".

I just received a printed copy of the audi workshop manual, and It has a great note and image showing that you have to remove two bolts and a bracket! I stupidly just followed along the TotalTechnik video, seeing and ignoring that bracket. Going to try that now and will report back.

Oh - I've still not found a manual that mentions the extra straps on the undercarriage. I'm assuming they are stock. But with a pre-owned vehicle, who knows? I don't have enough experience with Audi S4's.

Hooray! Got the engine and transmission out. Tightened the subframe bolts I'd loosened back up. Jacked the car up another 4 inches so I could get under it, removed that selection lever bracket, and out it came!20230112_135126 engine is out (Medium).jpg

    Thanks Vinny!

Was pretty annoyed with myself for just blindingly following TotalTechnik's instructions instead of looking closer at the transmission to begin with. I had it floating around the engine bay for days but not able to pull it forward. I'd read the pdf version of removing the engine a couple of times, but that bracket just never hit my consciousness. Until I saw it printed. Then it was super obvious.

BTW I found an online place that printed off and shipped the entire engine section, 250-ish pages, for $35. I think it's laser printed too, as it doesn't smear when damp. They bound it with a clear plastic top page and black plastic back page. Black plastic binding 'spiral'. Well worth the money.
