    Alarm horn

Replaced my alarm horn last November with a used one after the alarm would chirp and flash lights repeatedly. It took a day before I could arm the alarm wirelessly. I assumed that the internal batteries had to charge.
When the alarm exhibited the same behavior again last week, I put in another used horn. It beaps when I lock the car with the key, but won't arm wirelessly. Should this just plug and play? I think I'm going to have to spring for $300 for a new one, but I hope it will work with no programming

They are plug and play and don’t require VCDS to program, but they usually die from leaking batteries corroding the circuit board. So the used ones may have similar issues depending on age. Some have cut the alarm casing open to clean the board and replace the batteries and some have modified them to accept external battery pack. You also might want to check the harness wiring to see if yours is corroded. You can splice in a new section if that’s the case.

Took the car out for a drive and that fixed the issue. Evidently it has to run for a bit to marry up to the system. Now functions perfectly!
