    Brake fluid flush question

    Hi guys-
    While my car is sitting during my motor rebuild, I’d like to get some clean brake fluid in it. Is it as simple as opening the bleeders sequentially and pumping fresh fluid through the system, or am I going to upset the abs system somehow? Was thinking of pulling out the old fluid from the reservoir, then working my way around the car with someone pumping the brake pedal while I work the bleeders.

    Not sure but on the B6 you needed to pressure bleed the system

    you will not upset the abs system by flushing the brake fluid with the car sitting the way it is, using a pressure pump that attaches to the reservoir would make it a lot faster/easier.

    Bleeding is simple on our platform---no issue with the ABS...
    start with the right rear, left rear then right front and finish with the left front.
    FWIW- I collect at least 15 OZ from each caliber and also remove what I can, before bleeding, from the reservoir using an old turkey baster.
    If you want to flush the ABS unit you'll need to pressure bleed using at least 2bar pressure ( a bit over 29psi)
    PS- you may want to bleed the clutch---I collect some 10 oz from the slave cylinder.
    PSS- as stated earlier- a pressure bleeder makes this a one person job that's MUCH easier and quicker---for a simple bleed I use 15 psi pressure.
    The vac method will also work

    If you have an ESP car, you can bleed the ESP pump thru the front left caliper in order to flush out that part of the system. It requires VAG-COM and pump will run for 10 seconds.

    I like to use a Mity-Vac to bleed the clutch once it's all back together, just be careful with the stupid plastic bleeder screw on the slave.

    Chiming in here because I struggled a few years ago getting a good bleed on my brakes.

    I tried to MityVac vacc bleed and it worked ok but the pedal didnt feel right. So I made a pressure bleed with a second cap for the resevoir I bought on here.

    I ended up splitting my resevoir open nowhere near the 2bar thats recommended and having brake fluid go everywhere below the resevoir.

    I got a new resevoir and did a combo where I pressure bled in the order described(PassR, DriverR, PassF, DriverF) then did a sanity vacc bleed in same order cause I still felt like the pedal was soft. I ended up having to temporaily seal around the bleed screws with some heavy grease to keep air from working in through the threads.

    I had just put reman'd calipers on all 4 corners, not sure if that contributed but I definitely got my pedal feel after the above step. I then bled the ABS using vag com. Didnt touch the slave cylinder tbh.
