    First dyno run

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I went to the local dyno day this past Sunday, thought I would share my experience. Looks like I need to do some investigating as to why the car is breaking up at the top. Unfortunately I didn't do any data logging cause I'm a dumbass .

    Current mods:
    • SRM Long inlets
    • SRM LP Fuel lines with ethanol sensor
    • ARM Catless Downpipes
    • Akrapovic catback
    • DS1 Stg 2 OTS with COD
    • SRM TCU tune

The car had pretty much a full tank, DS1 was reading 64.5% Ethanol, run in 4th.

I would take a "I slept at a Holiday Inn Express Last night" attempt and think that maybe your Fuel was an issue being so high

sucks you didnt grab a log, as we would be able to see the IDC

any chance to grab one or two runs to compare and see if that may be the cause?

Though, if he has stock S6/7 turbo's, he should be able to run a lot higher E content.

At least you got that good-sized dip between 2500-3k rpm smoothed out!

Reminds me of my first 2.0TFSi dyno runs. Great off the line but after 4500 it was totally out of breath.

Swapped to a EFR6758 and now it'll pull hard till it pings off the limiter!!

Typically the turbos are down the line in terms of upgrades, but that chart is making me rethink my order of importance!

    Hastily reorganizing the whiteboard!

    Cheers,

Let's not get started on the differences within physical dyno machines discussion haha. There is also something else going on with the car/tune/fueling/hardware here

There is something going on with the vehicle that I still need to diagnose. You can see on the graph and hear it in the video. I'm going to dig into it when I have more time.

He doesn't need upgraded HPFP with Stg2 S6 turbo's though. Quite a few people run full E85 with stock HPFP on S6 turbo's

    a few questions....

-what gear did they do the run in?

-what correction factor did they apply (sae or std?) and no smoothing?

-although not looking like wheel slip, is it breaking up on the top (or loosing signal with the dyno?)

I wanna run mine sometime and dont know what gear is closest to 1:1

That’s a good question! He did mention they ran it in 4th, but wonder what others do. With the DL501 is 3rd or 4th closest to 1:1?

Based on the dyno screenshot, it states “uncorrected smoothing”

$5 on nowhere near enough air blowing on the heat exchanger, so your IAT's shot up and the ECU started pulling timing to keep the motor from blowing.

But as you know this is all conjecture without any logs.

A few days after the dyno session I was on my way to work and as I was giving it the beans the engine began bucking and cutting out on me. Later that evening I noticed the engine beginning to run a little rough and hesitating at low RPM under load as well. Looking at values O2s B2S1 was stuck rich, shortly after the road test the MIL came on for P2198. I replaced both sensors for bank 2, all seems to be ok now, currently at 70% ethanol and pulling strong all the way through. I still don't know how to properly data log with the DS1.

Nice work! Glad it’s seemingly working better and potentially all sorted out.

DS2 logging is fairly straightforward. Check the manual. There are even a few how-to videos

if you bought the DS1, you get DS2. as Matty said, its straight forward and really simple to do with the laptop. The How to a FAQ section is a life saver on the DS1 page

'bucking and cutting' out as you described under load typically means fueling problems. A bank being rich usually means you are getting too much fuel, could be 1 of 3 things or any combination of the following (in no particular order); LPFP crashing, HPFP crashing or leaking, bad injector. With no logs we are just guessing here but try a few of the following and report back-- Open up your oil filler cap and get a smell, if it smells like fuel (ethanol) in your case then likely bad HPFP's. Open up your web browser and use the DS1 to log LPFP at idle and report back your numbers. For reference the following has been my experiences with LPF values, for my C7 S6 at idle my LPF value is around (LPF 6.00ish) and at WOT the LPF value fluctuates between high 5.00s and mid to low 4.00s and when I put too much ethanol at wide open throttle I start to get a bucking sensation when the LPF value dips down to around (LPF 3.80ish) meaning my LPFP is crashing or not supplying enough ethanol. Hope you get your issue fixed, let us know what you discover.

When people fit downpipes they often don't realise the geometry of them is different and the O2 sensors can end up swapped between banks. One goes rich, the other goes lean and it is a pretty dangerous situation.

Vehicles running ethanol should be logged immediately to avoid problems. Continuing to drive through misfires is dangerous to the engine.
