Q5 steering wheel noise - Intermediate Shaft or steering wheel?

At first I thought it was an intermediate shaft because the steering would get hard around 90degrees then easy again. Now the steering wheel is making a bunch of noise and randomly gets more difficult to turn.

    Could it be both?

I think you have a problem with the crosspiece, it needs to be replaced.
