    Defective Steering Do Not Drive

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After a week of heavy rains in the Bay Area, I finally received the steering defective code on my dash. Probably due to water inside the electromechanical unit from the massive puddles here. I had my car towed to the dealer and I'm waiting to hear back.

I have a 17 Q5 with 93K miles. No issues with steering prior to this incident.

I've been reading up on the issue it seems to be a problem with Q5s during cold or rainy weather. My question is if someone has the same issue or went through the issue and was covered for by the extended warranty regarding the steering rack. Or was covered by insurance

    Thanks for reading!

The warranty extension is usually dependent on a particular DTC being present. If you have that, then you should be good.

Can't find a NHTSA logged document regarding the extension though.
There's no excuse for MY17 Q5 and A5 to not be covered; they are the same vehicles as MY16.

Just got an update. Dealership told me that I need a new steering rack as they found water inside. Estimate is about $5,000.

Time to tell them to tell AoA to cover it, or AoA can get another J500 class action to extend what's already been set forth by the prior class action.
