Angry My ECE Dogbone Mount literally Melted off my car. WTF!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was curious if anyone else has had this issue with their ECE dogbone mount. Mine literally melted off the car and came out the sides of the mount. It had about 15k miles on it when I started feeling more engine movement between shifts and when taking off. Threw it on the lift only to find that all of the bushing material had turned into mush. You could literally pick the bushing apart with your fingers. I tried to find some sort of contact to ECE to get the issue resolved and there is no way to get in touch with them. As a matter of fact im thinking they may have gone out of business. Did this happen to anyone else?

I couldn't believe my eyes. The shop got a real laugh out of it. I wonder if thats the reason ECE went out of business, I know lots of people are using these mounts. I've heard about the material getting very soft and losing its ability to stop transmission movement, but this is the first I hear of it actually melting out of the billet mount section.

There's someone else whose puck had melted, too but, I'm sure you saw that in our chat group--if that's you. My ECE mount is ok, I think but, I haven't disassembled it to look. But I certainly get a whole lot of vibration in my driveline at times that I can't really explain. It's completely random, however.

Mine looked fine for a while. The material just got very soft to the touch, this is when I first started noticing the d. I checked it again a few months later and this is what I saw.. It definitely took a while for this to happen, I'd say about 14-16 months from install to this.

Does this happen when you’re downshifting/engine braking? Occasionally I’ll get it too but tapping the gas or brake pedal stops it iirc.

Not the first time I've seen this... I guess that's why ECE doesn't exist anymore.

It’s a poly mount. So anything petroleum based that may get on it will eventually start to break it down. Did you happen to spray the engine down with anything or get oil on it at some point?

Yeah. If the car is engine braking, it stands a greater chance of happening. If I give it a little bit of throttle, it settles it out and sometimes it doesn't come back. But the car is super smooth in general but then will feel like a straight shit box during times like that. Granted, I also have 034 engine mounts, too but, you'd think if it were those it would be happening all the time.

Sorry this happened. My experience across several car platforms is that small companies making aftermarket suspension, braces and mounts tend to put out a lot of junk. What they market as an improvement is often worse than stock.

Sounds like you’re getting the same exact symptoms as me and yeah, I’m a bit dumbfounded as to what is actually happening. I have the 034 dogbone/trans/motor mounts and I’m just not really sure how those could be the culprit when I can get it to go away with a quick blip of the throttle either.

This happened to me with the uni dogbone when I had it over torqued. It was generally lower in the rpm range (sub 3k). Went away when I had it loosened. I have stock engine mounts.

I put a ECS red insert on mine and it was very affordable, durable and simple to install. I think I paid like $29.95.
