2018 A5 3G Audi Connect, MMI options?

I’m a new owner of a 2018 A5 Convertible. I have an iphone that works well with Apple CarPlay in the car. Are there additional worthwhile options regarding Audi Connect and the Audi MMI app? The car has non-functioning 3G but I have a US Mobile SIM card I could put into the slot in the glovebox but I’m not sure if it would work and if so, if there is anything to be gained by doing so? The dealer said no. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Your B9 A5 has an MIB MMI system, which is supposed to use an eSIM to provision LTE for Audi Connect and Google Earth/POI search services -- you need to work with Audi directly for that (costly, IMO) subscription service. The SIM slot in the MMI main unit can be configured to provision LTE for the internal WiFi AP/hotspot with VCDS. If your CarPlay behaves well, you might as well stick with that. --g

If your car is equipped with the Audi MMI Navigation Plus system, you should be able to take advantage of additional features through Audi Connect and the Audi MMI app. These services provide things like real-time traffic information, online destination search, and parking information. However, without a functional 3G connection, these features will not be available to you. If you have a US Mobile SIM card, it's possible that you could use it to enable a data connection in the car and enable these features, but I would recommend checking with Audi directly to see if that is a supported option for your specific vehicle.
