This also explains why I had a brief 'stall' two months ago after I turned the car on - just shuts off and dies right away. Bought some gaskets will be renewing the damn pump. While I'm at it I'll most likely going to tackle that flange. Gonna be losing some coolant that's for sure. Ordered some G-13 as I've been using a combination of G-12/G-13 mix whatever I can get my hands on. I heard the newer G13 from VW Audi is 50/50 premixed.
true on all counts.
I can do that flange in about an hour now or less, i posted some tips here a while ago to make it easier but have no idea where they are..
but i would say take your timing cover off and get a new gasket for it, gives tones of room and you can check your tensioner while you are in there.
from what i can remember about the flange .
1. have a micro socket set. and some torx bits , there are 5 screws holding on timing cover.
2. there are 3 holding on vaccum pump and a ground. that particular bolt is different and has a larg e head for holding on the ground bracket.
3. loosen off the coolant hard pipe....
4. remove the sensor, the hose with the disconnect and two bolts.
5. bend coolant hose from hard pipe to flange and pull flange above engine still attached to hose...
6. mark position of coolant flange on hose ( a lot easier to get flange off coolant line above the engine like this )
7 put new flange on hose in exactly the same clocked position
8. unbend hose and hose will hold coolant flange in exact position to reinstall bolts behind engine ..
9. bolt everything back up DO NOT OVER TORQUE BOLTS
