If you don’t get an answer, it’s probably because no one has a comment that’s helpful 🤷

I have no idea if an S6 rack will fit an A6, different part numbers suggest there are differences.

    S6 Steering rack on A6

    I think it’s just a not very common problem/swap.

I would assume, as is often the case with our cars, that given the part number is different the software/firmware is different.

There are typically two paths to resolving this. Firstly, and most simply accomplished, is to correct the coding in VCDS. You would have to find someone who has this part number in their car and copy over the parameters in VAGCOM/VCDS. You could also do a search for steering rack coding and see what comes up. VCDS is available off the shelf.

Secondly, if the above fails, you would need to go to the dealer, or find someone who has ODIS to flash a compatible firmware version on to the rack.

This is a somewhat generic answer and it’s totally possible that both the rack software cannot be updated and the the current software will not work on your car.

Maybe someone with more specific experience on this exact part swap can chime in.

They are probably different enough that they won't interchange?
