Dreaded P0016 - After Engine rebuild - thoughts

Just wanted to get some perspective from the community . My original engine failed due too the timing chain jumping and destroying the engine. An Audi specialist located in NYC found an engine with 55,000 Miles and for good measure the piston rings were replaced as well as turbo and engine mounts (Since the engine was already out). The timing on this newly acquired engine was completed and 93,000 Miles later the engine jumped timing suddenly without warning. Upon Start up there was a really rough idle and after turning the vehicle off and getting a tow. After diagnosis The engine suffered the same faith as the first. The shop in which did the work said "nothing we can do".Correct me if i am wrong but the updated timing chain and tensioner is supposed to have a longer service life than the original>?

100,000 miles is definitely pushing it and shame on you for not being on top of it.. your chain probably stretched too much for the tensioner to handle it. I bet it wasn't the updated chain either. Your mechanic is right and you went far to long without maintenance.

you might want to make sure he used quality parts and not from " Audi of china" , but other than that i would say you were not monitoring phase adaption and chain wear.

as far as fixing it i would suggest another timing chain , putting it in time and check compression, if it did it on start up there is a chance you did not bend any valves. It is definitely worth checking as i have helped quite a few guys on this forum with that advice and their car did not bend valves.

    Worth a try either way.

Just to confirm, are you saying you went back to the shop that did it 93000 miles ago and asked them to fix it? Did they start laughing while you were there or did they wait for you to leave

Very interesting i assume it was the updated chain based on the bill i could be wrong. I was under the impression that the new chain and tensioner update would have solved the timing jump issue considering audi had a class action for this component failure already. But hey fixing it is less than financing a new car 20% ABOVE MSRP lol. Im Guessing then we should ignore audis recommended service mileage for the chain and just replace it at 50k

Nope not a karen just asked for a diagnosis. just curious though what is the normal range for this kind of job. My buddy has a older audi and hasn't had his done or rather he doesnt believe

the recall was for a bad tensioner... or I should more accurately state the "extended warranty"..even with a new updated tensioner it can only do so much.. of course this is all guesswork based on what you are telling us. new chain only came out a few years ago. Also even the new tensionerr can only do so much.

From data we review on this site, about 100k is what you are going to get out of a chain. not normal to " jump" at 93 . more like adaption is in the 6% range. so will be Interesting what you find.
Also you might have had a new chain and tensioner, but if a guide broke you are screwed as it slacks the chain Immediately.
Please let us know what the mechanic finds
