    Help, keeps stalling.

    Good morning everyone,

I’m new to this side of the court. I own a A4 and have been active on their side. Anyway, a little bit ago, I was given a 2015 A5, 4 cylinder with a stage 2 tune with auto tranny. It was payment for some work I did for a guy. It had about 105,000 miles on it and a main seal leak along with a leak around the turbo. Pulled the motor and fixed the main leak. Haven’t messed with the turbo yet. But the pressing issue Im having lately is when I’m in regular drive, and it gets below 2000 rpm’s, it stalls. It does not do it in sport shift mode.

It starts right back up again. But it is getting a bit annoying. I thought I’d float this out here first before looking around. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and happy new year.

    Mark

Need a bit more info to make any educated guesses. Do you have any sort of scan tool available? Preferably VCDS.

You mentioned that you replaced the rear mail seal. A faulty PCV is a main contributor to this type of failure. Has yours ever been replaced?

Thanks old guy. No scan tool. I loaned it out and haven’t gotten it back. I’ll post the results asap. Thanks for the tip on PCV. Be in touch.

Hello again, I’m not as familiar with this set up. But I was told this is a catch can setup. Does that mean anything to you. Thx. I’ll have those codes over asap.

Yes I am familiar with catch cans. My advice would be to remove it and return to the OEM PCV set-up. Catch cans can cause a myriad of problems. Including blowing out rear main seals. Here is one of many threads in which I have explained some of the inherent issues. Clicky click®️

Hey, I just spoke to the old owner who did the catch pan set up. He said the following. Your thoughts?? Thanks.

It’s not a pvc or catch can problem. It’s an oil pressure issue at low rpm that sets off the EPC light and shuts the car down . He thinks the cam bridge oil pressure is creating the light and it maybe a blockage of the real small passage in it

That's quite an assumption. You really need to scan for specific codes to determine the issue. Otherwise it's just guesswork.

A question about the catch can. When was the last time it was serviced? We had some extremely cold weather recently in MD. If there was a lot of condensation in the can or can supply lines they could have frozen. This scenario can cause quite a bit of damage.

Yes. I was reading your post about that. I don’t know when he last did it. I will be servicing it this weekend. I haven’t been driving it for a few weeks

Update. Cleaned the catch can. Wasn’t that much. Replaced cam bridge. The screen was a bit dirty. Erased codes and reran the scan. No codes now. And car runs amazing. No stalling 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻.

Thanks for your help old man. Appreciate it.
