    Key fobs?

Does anyone have success with aftermarket key fobs?
I want to get a remote starter but i only have 1 fob at the moment.
Ive read that you need oem fobs to be programmed at the dealer. Makes sense.
Ive also read aftermarket fobs work if programmed by a locksmith.

Looking for some definitive answers specific to remote starting.

    Here is what I've seen:
    - several posts from users that have purchased either aftermarket or eBay fobs, and were unsuccessful at getting them programmed.
    - I've never seen a post from a user stating they have successfully had an aftermarket fob programmed on the B9 platform. That doesn't mean it hasn't been done - just that I've never seen anyone report success with it.

Thats not a definitive answer to your question -- just my observation. Sorry.

FYI, a dealer won’t likely touch any aftermarket fob

Dimitry posted a video on installing aftermarket remote start, it requires the use of a spare key (and no aftermarket fobs are required). The solution he has is from 12volt solutions, I think they are just a reseller of Fortin and bundle all the harnesses to simplify the install. If that's the case you can likely purchase upgraded fobs for long range 2 way communication or a mobile app.

Edit: I misread that you only have 1 keyfob, so this wasn't helpful, sorry

solid info all around. ill probably just take the nut kick at the dealership for a fob to make this work at some point.
Was just hoping for an easier/cheaper option potentially.

Hey. I have a B9 A4, and I also do mobile electronics and remote starters. I had to bite the bullet and purchase a 2nd key fob from Audi in order to remote start my vehicle. I think it was $500-600 from Audi. Depending on whether you go with a Directed electronics remote start(Viper, Python, Avital) or Compustar you will need a 2nd key fob to remote start the vehicle. The 2nd key fob gets installed under the shift knob cover, the remote start brain can be installed under the steering wheel column area.
