Have rear tail lights on with front running lights/parking lights? Without headlights

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I want to have the tail lights on when the front DRL are on. So when its still light outside before it gets dark I can leave my headlights off longer. Sitting in a parking lot at night id like to have the rears on without the headlights on. I realize I can hold the brake in the parking lot but I just want them on when the when sitting and im not in the car. Not the brake lights but the running lights.

    Can obdeleven do this somehow?

    Thanks.

The stock switch doesn't allow for that combo?

Don't know of a software hack, but a good, old fashioned piece of hardware will do exactly what you're asking with almost no effort.

"parking lights" (headlights off) vs "driving lights" (headlights on).

Yeah ObdEleven will take care of your request. Easier to program DRL and rears on all the time, then having to turn parkingmode on and off, as you get in and out of your car.

Carista has the option to use the rear taillights as DRLs.

One change I made with Carista that's pretty cool is to have the front DRLs dim when the turn signal is on. So instead of the default behavior (which is the DRL turning off with the turn signal) or changing it to have the DRL remain on with the turn signal, my car dims the DRL to about 50% brightness only on the headlight that has an active turn signal, then it returns to full brightness once the turn signal is canceled. Looks pretty cool....

That will work, but it will cause the front DRL LEDs to dim. If he wants to use his taillights as DRLs, there's an option to do that in the software. That way, his front DRLs remain at full brightness along with the tailights being on.

Re the OP's original question (Rear parking lights on with DRLs on), would this be enabled permanently in Address 09 Byte 2 Bit 7 (set to 1) ?

And the DRL brightness change noted by RockJGC (dim DRL with turn signal on), would this be enabled in Address 09 Byte 9 Bit 7 (set to 1) ?

I also wonder how conflicting coding might affect these (say, DRL off with turn signal on (AKA, wink mode). For reference: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/a4-...rence.9501572/ --g

I obviously didn't do mine with VAGCOM coding like you're talking about....it was just turned on via Carista, so I'm not sure about directly coding these changes. However, I'm pretty sure I had to leave Wink on in order to enable the dimming w/turn signal.
