Replace all 4 tires after a blowout? What would you do?

I've found conflicting information. Less than 20k on the set and I'm currently planning on just replacing the two that will be on the same axle but I haven't been impressed with the tires and may be a good time to cut bait if it's recommended anyway. Thanks in advance.

With 20k mikes, its prob best to repkace them all. It's "best" to keep within 3/32" of each other, but also always hear within 2-3% rolling radius when running staggered setups. I would try and keep writhing 1% if possible, on staggered sizes. If ya measure the tread depth, and its 3-4/32" less than new, it'll be fine. But if ya don't like the tires, great time to go with somethin different.

If rolling with new, look up the Continental DWS. I have them on my 3.2 and have been through flooding rain and snow, highway driving and will be buying same once they’re worn out.

Thanks, if I remember correctly the number I saw to keep it within was 1/4" and the 3/32" was mentioned as Porsche specs. At that point I'm probably just going to bite the bullet.

1/4" is high for a "factory" spec. Honestly would prob be fine at 1/4", but can't see Audi recommending that.
If you plan on running an A/S tire, the Conti DW06 are great, if ya don't get a lot of snow. For summers I run GT g-max RS, great dedicated summer for the cost($450/4 at the time for 225/40/18).
But like ya said, great time to try something else.

Your call. Replacing the two on the same axle is a good idea/must given 20k on them. Staggered or square?

No rush to replace the other two, do it when the mood strikes you, but before 10k or so on the new two.

I just had a puncture on the Cayenne and have one new tire and one 20k mile tire on the same axle. Will get a new tire on the other side in a month or so. Staggered setup.

Thanks guys. I'm in Ohio so I don't need a dedicated snow tire but it's the reason I gave the Nokian Entyre a try, with their rep for winter tires and I felt the Hakka's would've been overkill. Continental I may be able to source locally too so that's another plus and that's the exact feedback I was hoping for!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with just changing the pair on an axle. You’re car will be fine and you won’t have any issues mechanically. Theres a ridiculous myth floating around that all 4 tires on a Quattro need to be the exact same and have same wear otherwise a black hole will open up and suck in the earth.

As long as all 4 tires are the same size you’re good to go.

Hahaha thanks for this. Kinda what I was thinking, that it was a manufacturer conspiracy lol.. but I'm no mechanic I read that it could damage differentials or the transfer case and I've heard those words before but that's the extent of my knowledge on either.

I haven't measured but roughly 20k on a 60k tire, and they say tires come with 10/32" of wear so if that's accurate I assume around 6-7/32" left. It's early but I think that's what I remember.

i agree with this, ive even put the spare on ( full size ) for weeks on end with a completely different tire while i price things out with absolutely zero side affects.

Even those guys who think they are Ken Block ( RIP BTW ) are really driving well within the ability of the cars tires and wouldn't notice much difference. .

Yeah, the problem with that myth is if someone puts a spare on, has low PSI, or any minor deviation on a tire from the other 3 the car would somehow break :)

I've seen Audi dealerships replace a single tire multiple times on their quattro cars when its under warranty, but anytime its out of warranty its a strong push to replace the entire set :)

If thats the case. Id the new identical brand & tread style tire to the rear. keep the 2 used front tires matched tread depth in the front.

Side to side difference won’t matter as long as tires are the same size. Not fundamentally any different to the diff than one wheel spinning faster than the other in a turn. Front to rear differences don’t matter all that much either because our center differential doesn’t lock. Differentials gonna differentiate! It’s literally their purpose to account for varying wheel speeds. In our cars, as long as the tires are the same size, just send it. Wear won’t matter. I have replaced single tires, used a new spare that was different than the others, and used different brands even on the same axle at times. I have yet to do any damage to anything and I’ve got well over 100k miles driven in B7s at this point.
