is the oil pump an issue for the earlier models?

as the car ages, i am wondering if the oil pump could be an issue?
like many things on this car the parts seems to be just pure crap like the water pump and turbo issues. I'm curious to see if the oil pump needs to be replaced early or its a safe item that shouldn't be worried about.

or is there inline filter that needs servicing. i haven't heard anything about people having issues with oil starvation yet.

My 2015 has 175,000 miles...zero oil pump issues.

Previously it had 2 bad fuel injectors which could have killed the motor if it wasn't caught and continued to push boost.

What is an issue is piston rings. High oil consumption... which VW/Audi have updated the pistons.

Note whats said about the updated pistons.

Generally what could also be an issue are the bottom shell crank bearings and the connecting rod bearings wear....high torque/high boost motors often have this issue.

Look for metal particles in the oil filter next time the oil is changed.

A good idea is if you swap out the plastic oil pan for a metal one...inspect the oil pick up tube and make sure its clean.

here is a little conversation starter:
with the current options on the market (me not liking anything right now) would you say if the motor goes, buy a new motor or fix whats damaged and upgrade anything else while doing it?

    is it worth the effort?
    is it worth the cost?

I'm not sure if I want to go with fixing it?
    pros and cons are many.

I'm not sure if would just get rid of it before any issues arise and buy something new, which would probably have issues as well.
    pros and cons here too.

the other options is go electric.
sooo many pros and cons I can come up with this one.

Conversation has already started above with my post about piston rings...

Depends how long you want to keep the car.

Depends how much you want to spend $$$

The issue with the E888.3 appears to be the original version piston rings. So much so VW/Audi have updated them to fix the issue...

Set of new Mahle 82.5mm E888.3 pistons: $800.

    https://www.us.mahle.com/media/usa/m...en-iii-web.pdf

    Cost to install?

I can DIY it so just time for me and a new head gasket set and upgrade to head studs and new valve guide seals.

My current engine is at 175,000 miles. I would rather bore it out to accept 83mm pistons.

Refresh all the bearings...did the same on my B6 2004 A4 which is still driving at 326,000 miles.

Used motors every where as the 2.0T is in various models even Porsche Macan.

I found a used 2.0t with 3000 miles for $3500 at a salvage yard. Buy this DIY install it in my S3. Should be good for another 175,000.

What year S3 motors have the updated pistons from the factory? E888.3B?

Many variables...all dependent on individual needs, skills and finances.

How did you determine you’re injectors were bad?
