    A4 cab insurance value

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an a4 '08 quad cab w/86k miles in nice condition. Was side swiped by a hit and runner. Side has very minor damage but need repaint (whole side) refinish one wheel and whole mirror assy. Ins won't allow more than $4900 or would total.
Does anyone have a solid idea of what a total should be?
There's no way you could replace it for 5k

Doesn't matter what we think, it matters what you can prove to the insurance company. When my A4 was totaled, Geico made me search for comparable local sales to justify a higher value than what they were ascribing. And even then, that was only to get my pay out up; they were bound and determined to total it no matter what.

And the threshold for totaling is usually around 50% of estimated value, so they're not saying your cab is worth 5K, they're saying it's worth 10, but they're not going to pay out more than $4,900

What's crazy about this is that 3 years ago the car that this replaced was an 06 B6 cab with 180,000 Mi on it. they totaled it and gave me $5,400! I need to see what I'm paying for $1000 deductible collision coverage. Probably end up canceling it.
Sad thing is that the asshole that hit me took off. I chased him and got his tag number and reported it. Used to be against the law to flee the scene. I figure he was drunk and didnt want to blow a breathalizer. I know an investigator and got all his info. His tire rubber is all over my car, so it's obvious that his wheel was turned into me. Doesn't matter, the bad guys always win!
And Hugh, you guys were able to supply me the correct A/C pressure switch for this car. Other sources supplied a switch that looked identical but was wrong! Had to do the nasty job twice...wish I went to you guys first!

I mean, this is still very illegal. He's not going to win, but in the end you still lose too.

The good news is, you can take the payout and probably buy back the car for under a grand. They won't mark your title either and you'll have 9 or 10 grand to play with to get it fixed. You should honestly come out ahead with cash in your pocket.

The police have no interest in pursuing it since I could not identify the actual driver (it was dark) and no one was injured.
    He already won!!

rhfosu, I've heard of this happening, but dont know why they'd pay twice as much. And once you sign over the title, how can you be sure they dont send it to an auction? Can you make these arrangements up front?

Get a dash cam. I got a $1100 payout for some scratches after someone parallel parked into me and fled. Their tag and vehicle is all they need to put fault on the other insurer. Doesn't matter who's driving.

I wouldn't think so, but i was basing it off the 4900 he said the insurance company would total it at.

If you have the tag then your insurance can go after their insurance for damage. I would call my insurance company and find out what can be done.

I thought about squeezing the insurance company for as much of a total as I can get and see if maybe I could upgrade to an A5 with low mileage. but the fact of the matter is I really like this B7 and I bought it 3 years ago with 25,000 miles on it with impeccable service records and I don't think I could duplicate it

I think you will be kicking in a lot of money to do that.
a4b7 is not worth anything here and a cab is worth even less .
to go to a b8 and an a5 no less will be a stretch.
not to mention. e888 engines are crap.

They usually total it if damage is like 80% of value, but that does vary by company and case by case. So if theyre paying ya $4900, its prob worth around $6k ish.

older cars are essentially worthless as far as insurance is concerned. I had a 203 C-Class...beautiful car, but had high miles. About 2 years ago, it got totaled. Other guys fault. His insurance tried to offer me like $800. I had to run circles getting them to pay me close to it's real value. I think I finally got them for 4 or 5g's, but it was huge hassle. I had to threaten litigation, send them like 50 current for sale adds of what they were actually going for, etc. I would have just bought it back but the damage was in the rear quarter...too much body work. Took the cash and bought an A3. Outside of the f*cking seatbacks falling off, it's been a great little car. (Oh, and the stupid pano-roof sunshades lol..I zip-tied them closed)
