Finally happened - stuck fuel door

I'm on my tenth Audi at this point and I've never had the dreaded stuck fuel door.

It's a 2021 S5 with only 9600 miles on it. Went to the pump today and it just wouldn't pop open. Couldn't find the manual release inside the fender well so I drove away. Quite embarrassing.

Could the solenoid die that quickly or maybe the result of the precipitously extremely cold weather? Car is garage kept and always clean.

Would only take a little bit of ice for the release mechanism to freeze? Check after leaving in your garage for a while. If it now opens, find the moving parts and use some silicone spray to help reduce stiction. Haven't had that problem yet with the B9 but has happened a couple of times for my B7.

Mine has been "stuck" for about a year, and only opens if I lock/unlock the vehicle again after getting out at the pump

So they reintroduced the failing fuel filler door lock solenoid for B9? Good ol Audi. Common with the early B8.0.

So I just got back from where I was going and had left my car outside in the sun. When I got back and unlocked the car the fuel door opened up with no problem. I think it was just frozen from the previous multiple days in the teen temperatures.

Nah, it's too easy to lock/unlock real quick. I will once it breaks

B8 had problems too, that's why B9 doesn't lock during drive, only when You lock the car from outside (in Europe, don't know about US cars).
