Burning oil smell after driving a short trip

Hello everyone, I know there are threads with oil consumption issues, I’ve posted in there before, however I believe I may have a different issue the the regular PCV valve replacement.

I have a 2010 s4 with 225k, unitronic stage two and no other mods. I’m consuming about a litre of oil every 1100 kilometres.
I’ve had the PCV replaced at 160k.
I also have black spay coming out the Exaust on startups. But recently in the last 6 months or so , I’ve noticed the smell of burning oil, even after a short trip to the store when I park my car in the garage. And it seems to be getting worse.
There are no signs of an oil leak.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Smell of burnt oil can be out of the exhaust valve guides. I’m a motorcycle mechanic and we see this with very high mileage bikes. It will not smell like your classic burning oil through the combustion chamber. It will get pushed into the exhaust system and never really “burned”. It leads to an oil baking smell similar to a leak onto a hot surface. Run your finger inside the exhaust tips. Dry sooty is normal on direct injection but if it’s wet or pasty I’d say it’s exhaust guides.

With 225k miles, maybe throw some liquimoly oil saver in your next oil change and see if it helps. Might help you avoid having to do guides on an old, high miles engine.

The smell is definitely coming from under the hood area.

Ooooh. Yeah that would not be valve guides. I would guess valve cover gaskets or oil filter housing, in that order. Valve cover can drip right onto the exhaust manifold.

I was gonna mention valve cover gaskets.
At 97,000miles, mine were hard as a rock and leaking badly, along with my rear timing covers each of which will let oil drop on to exhaust manifolds or cats.

Mine has both these issues right now with 130k. Oil pan too. It's seeped for a while but now it's bad enough to start dripping occasionally.

Also, I’m looking to maybe sell my car so I do t want to sink a ton of money into her, but I’m guessing the liquid Molly oil saver stuff won’t help this if it’s a valve gasket

No, probably not. Oil saver is just a band aid. At least on this car the gaskets are pretty accessible.
