My car must have received an over the air update yesterday, because now my android auto works wirelessly.

Mines work with the new software update they did on my 2021 Audi RS7. I stop using my Motorola MA1 dongle which I used as a device to utilize the android auto.

Makes sense, I got the update a week ago as well.

You didn't have your car at the dealer recently? It just started working?

I have it on my 2021 now as well, but it didn't go active until they did the 6 hour ECU update at the dealer when I took it in for a service and the software update recall on the backup camera.

The funny thing is... I was at the dealer a month earlier for some other service and I got a newer car as a loaner, and it had wireless AA. When I came to pick up my car, I told them how much I enjoyed the wireless AA and if there was anyway mine could do it as well.

His response was "No way, not without spending $15k on a new MMI system." Obviously, hard pass on that expense. I'll keep using my wireless dongle. Low and behold, a month later and a free software update from Audi activated it :)

Did you all have to do a new setup with the MMI or it just started working with an existing AA phone/setup?

You have to re-pair the phone with the MMI after the updates. It will automatically start android auto. They disconnected my MA1 android auto dongle when doing this update and havent used it again. Only problem is my favorite heated steering wheel button that I put on the bottom of the MMI screen got removed twice... Not sure why.. I keep putting it back.

I didn't have to do anything... It simply starting working. I was getting annoyed with the dongle I had been using and switched back to the cable. However, it was streaming while it was unplugged. I was convinced it must have cached the audio somewhere. However, after trying all sorts of new sources, it was 100% wireless Android Auto. Odd that the dealer didn't say a word about it. Great feature!

It was actually the mmi update at the dealer that made it work.
