    Fault Codes after Misalignment

    Hi guys,

Long story short... was making a sharp right turn and hit the curb pretty hard... ended up misaligning my right tire and it caused a lot of errors on my dash.
I went into a performance shop to get the alignment fixed yesterday but they were not able to clear any of the codes as they keep returning. They also performed a cap discharge. These faults only appeared after I hit the curb.

The day of the hit and misalignment, I had the following errors:
    ESC Stabilization Control Malfunction
    Sport Differential Malfunction
    Auto Start/Stop Malfunction
    Distance Warnings Not working
Audi Pre-sense Functions Limited (currently the rear cross traffic assist, lane assist does not work)
Front Passenger Airbag Off warning (probably related to the recall that I had yet fix due to parts shortage at local Audi, but it never lit up prior)

After alignment, same errors listed above but now I also have:
    Steering System Fault
    Safety System Malfunction

The mechanics (who told me that they were all ex-Audi mechanics) said that there were no issues that could be physically seen with the sensors, control arms, bushings or steering wheel rack.
But suspects that actual issue lies with the steering wheel rack. Also added that I'd likely need to do recalibration as well for the cameras and sensors.

I currently have plans to see another mechanic that I was referred to for a second opinion and to see if he is able to clear any codes.
Has anyone had a similar experience before?

Ex-Audi mechanics for a reason. Go to the dealership.

The errors after the alignment sound like an issue with resetting your steering angle sensor. I’ve learned that you can disconnect your battery overnight to at least hide these, but they’re still active in the background if you scan the car. In my situation, I had to get another alignment at a shop that could properly align everything and reset the steering angle sensor, but I also didn’t hit anything and instead had coilovers and all control arms replaced. My B8.5 is a bit different but does have all the nanny-distance sensors and I avoided a trip to the dealer, an $800 alignment with radar sensor recalibration and a TD1.

Thanks for the insight! I'll bring this up when I go in next... hopefully this is the case for the steering at least. Depending on what the second opinion is on the rest, will likely end up biting the bullet and taking it to Audi to diagnose

I've done a similar thing. You need to go and get an "advanced alignment" from Audi. Everything gets recalibrated, and the errors will be gone. There is no way around it. You're looking between $500-$700...

Damn... did you also have the same faults and errors as well in your case? I will likely inquire Audi about this "advanced alignment" sometime tomorrow or Friday... roughly how many man-hours did it take to complete the job?

Well, my curb hit ended up in a $18,000 claim... Only a single broken tie end....
But the advanced alignment is a flat fee so I don't think man hours matter

That's $500 - $700 US. In Toronto it'll be about $1200 + taxes. I had it done on my RS5 a couple of years ago and it set me back $1400 and change.

Ouch... my hit and misalignment wasn't as bad as yours so hopefully nothing's wrong mechanically. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for info. Assuming with inflation it's going to be a little more than that now... Will likely have to wait til the New Years before I can even get an appointment in.
