8Y RS3 owners - am I the only one with a noisy brake pedal in cold weather?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

    Been meaning to post this...

Every since temps started dropped below 45 or so, my 2023 brake pedal exhibits a very annoying sound at the top of the pedal travel. You release the pedal, and then clank. Searching on here and other forums, it seems Q5 owners had this issue (or something very similar). I have diagnosis scheduled for 12/21 but was trying to see if anyone has experienced this yet?

Brake performance doesn't seem to be affected, its just really annoying.

I'll try uploading one of my clips to youtube.

EDIT: My dealer seems to have fixed the problem which was caused by a faulty brake booster . Hope this post helps everyone . post 25

Mine does that when I first start driving on a cold day. Similar temperature number as well with it being about under 45 degrees. Very noticeable, but seems to also stop after the first few minutes of driving.

Mine is squeaky cold or not cold. Definitely noticeable. I’ve gotten used to it but I’ll ask about it at service sometime.

Mine also does this. Need to take it in, but haven’t had a chance yet.

I have a 2019 RS 3 with 42,957 miles on it of which 30,929 have been fasr country back
roads run 3 days a week as weather permits. Our RS 3 is in our heated garage (60°F) so
it never really sees much cold, until it is moved outside into the weather. Certainly enjoy
this great automobile. And soon to be 83 years old, I've been driving and racing auto's
since 1958 and fortunately still doing so, in this wonderful vehicle.

If you've never driven one and you are a person who enjoys very good performance
automobiles, do take a 'test' drive in the Audi RS 3. I think you'll be plesantly surprised.

I am in northern VA country side, 55 miles west of Washington D.C. and unfortunately
the maintenance of our roads has been significantly reduced over the years. And the
now larger population has certainly aggravated the road surface issues. Sign of the
    times nation wide?

Second video is almost exactly what I'm hearing as well. I'll have to try and get a video as well next time it happens.

Same here. Thought my shoes were pulling up on the brake peddle. Don't think it's a huge issue though. I also notice a slight vibe in the front end around 80 + mph. Again nothing crazy but I can feel it thru the steering wheel. Anyone else?

I also have the vibration over 70, took it back to the dealer multiple times and had the tires rebalanced twice. Ended up driving my salesman’s personal 8y and determined it to be “ normal”

Ha! There's a guy on YouTube - Will Motivation - and he has an 8Y and had the same vibe. Had tires rebalanced

I can also confirm this is happening on my 8y as well... unfortunately lol. Thought it was a balance issue and/or out of round tires on my aftermarket set. Turned out to partially be a tire issue in which Michelin addressed. BUT...a slight vibration still remains even after replacing tires and confirming balance.

Lets not talk about vibration or a different issue - create a separate thread for that.

Back to the original topic UPDATE but nothing really new to report - dealer set up a follow up appointment and the tech is going to have to get audi field rep involved as there are so many things it could potentially be. At least they'll have a loaner for me this time, so the rs3 can get all nice and cold over night. Today, he definitely heard the noise but eventually it went away after warming up. Although, driving more today , it does still happen randomly. Going to send the videos I made, to audi, so hopefully they can look into it beforehand - hopefully this isn't an ongoing saga that takes forever to diagnose.

Good luck. I'm nor seeing any issues with braking ability so I will wait to hear your update before I pursue any dealer rabbit hole fixes.

Hello, new to the forum. Just picked up a 2023 Audi S3, and after 500 miles, I have noticed this exact same noise when releasing foot from break pedal. I bought the car when it was a bit warmer (40-50s), and now we are below freezing. Not sure if temperature is what is driving this sound. I read a lot about the Q5/SQ5 and it seemed like a similar sound was noticed- several members had servos, boosters, and master cylinders replaced. Not sure if I want to go down the rabbit hole with this, but curious if you had this rectified with the dealership.

Did anyone get an update from the dealer? Maybe just something needs to be lubricated?

I meant to update the thread - but you can see the updated comments in one of the videos....

First visit to dealer - the mechanic heard it, but the car had warmed up and really didn't hear it after. These cars are so new and they're not going to throw parts at it so they have to open a case with Audi for advice.

Second visit - I left the car there so it sat over night. He definitely heard what I was talking about - case is then opened with Audi Technical Field support? (TAC case or something like that). That team needed to confirm or give advice of what to replace - took several days and my car sat while I had my sweet Q5 loaner (honestly it was nice to drive around the buttery smooth q5 heh). Luckily, one of the other mechanics at my dealer has an 8Y s3 - brake system is the same/similar, and they confirmed his car has none of the noises. Audi field support recommended replacing the electromechanical brake booster. I'm now waiting on the part to arrive from germany.

Good luck - its actually quite annoying, and certain days will continue to persist, despite the car being really warm. Searching around on google, Audi seems to have a history of problems in designing brake boosters across some of their models.

Never had that in the 8V maybe its the Crocks causing the issue Haha hope the dealer gets it sorted, I certainly wouldn't want my new car to sound like a that.

I had my dealer (Audi Cochran) check out my squeaky brake pedal. They claimed normal function and offered no fix. They said there is nothing to lubricate in there.

Did you accept this? They think the brake pedal is supposed to sound like that on a new car? Did you request them look at every other car, does it make the same noise? What did they say when every other car on their lot, doesn't make this noise? Its an rs3 feature? lol... Its not even close to normal function. Sorry, I can't stand lazy dealers, and I would've flipped if I were you. I'll keep you guys posted in a couple weeks when they make the appointment to swap out the brake booster.

Honestly, I usually am this way. But the brake noise doesn't bother me a whole lot so I kind of did accept it. I suppose I may revisit this with them down the road if it becomes bothersome. Let us know how your fix goes. Perhaps this is a widespread issue.

I had the repair done last week and despite having unusually warmer weather - I'm quite confident that its FIXED!! Maybe mine was worse than you guys, but I'm so relieved this is gone - it was really annoying and somewhat ruining my experience with the car. I'm glad the mechanic at my dealer took my concerns seriously - its shameful that some of your dealers treated this as not a problem. Ordered AWE exhaust in celebration of the fix LOL.

    Picture below describes the repair.
