    Duckbill vs GT Wing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all, which do you prefer with the Liberty Walk widebody kit, duckbill spoiler or GT Wing? I like them both a lot actually. Won't be tearing up the Nürburgring, but I am curious as to any downforce the duckbill may have. Would you feel safer at 180 mph with the GT wing?

Visually i dont like these, but i like the spoiler that's like the GT wing but smaller (still the "raised by 2 pegs" type)

Yeah, I think you either like them or you don't. I can't make up my mind as I like them both. GT Wing obviously way more aggressive than the duckbill. Duckbill is subtle but still very nice. I just hate for people to see that wing and think "cheesy rice", especially when it a $2k carbon fiber wing. As car racing enthusiasts, we've watched GT racing, Le Mans, etc, and can appreciate what it is. On this car it would be super functional, should you find yourself speeding through a canyon pass or want a day at the track.

If you're going to go full Liberty Walk, might as well go chassis mounted:

Chassis mount looks pretty cool too. Any positive to doing that other than aesthetics? I like the look of the swan neck GT wing I posted above also.

I love me some swan-neck wings. It's also the "in" thing right now, helped along with Porsche's wholesale adoption of it for their GT cars.

Nothing is stopping you from doing a chassis-mounted swan-neck.

Either way you can’t go wrong but the duckbill to me looks more integrated…like it’s part of the Kit and not an add on!!!

That's why I wouldn't want it for this application. If you're going the Liberty Walk route with your car, you're likely the type wanting the bespoke look.

Seriously, if one went with the 'Duckbill Spoiler' because it looked more integrated, it would be the ONLY part of the kit that looked integrated...Just Sayin'

Just interested, but is it for track use? I see that you're living around Dallas, i hated the highways there, especially in the city limits where the road is like a battle, people really cant drive there lol. But still better than Houston.

I just hate for people to see that wing and think "cheesy rice", especially when it a $2k carbon fiber wing. Well, people definitely gonna think "Cheesy Rice" with these 2 spoilers lol. But it's not about what people think, you are the owner and you need to build the car you want. Even if you are in a midlife crisis (which your username suggests ), you need to be satisfied with your car!
Since you live in 'Murica it doesnt matter what you put on it (in europe the large wing would probably be illegal). And in Dallas there's plenty of crazy cars to blend in. (Dont put spikes on the wheel though).

Personally, I'd say these spoilers only work when you go all-out racecar look all around the car, with the bolt-on wheelarches and everything. But for use on public roads its a bit much i think.
If you want an elegant sportscar look and have the money to spend, there's a retractable wing for the RS5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OALKc31wBWs&t=1278s
Not only is it functional, but you have a party trick to show people! lol

Oh also, the guy who recommended the swan-neck wing, How the hell are you supposed to open the trunk with that thing? Looks really cool though on the r8

It's at this point I realize my car is cheap enough for the "kids" to buy..
I now will be selling my car and buy some thing out of their price range. Its a constant battle.

    LOL

LW kits are not my style. I don't even like flashy colors on my car. But I'd love to know the "kids" who can afford the 10-15K it takes to buy and properly set up a Liberty Walk kit (based on the S5 pricing). That's not counting everything else you'll need to spend money on to have the rest of your car not look out of place with a widebody kit, like proper suspension and wider rims, wrap/paint, etc. I knew someone who had an LW kit on his 350Z, which is the cheapest version of that kit you can get (about 3K) and he still ended up spending 30K plus on that car.

Thanks for the feedback. I think that you answered my question. It comes down to what look I want to achieve; an elegant sports car look, or more "racing" look. By going with the LW kit, it's going to have the race look anyway, so I think I'm going with the swan neck CF spoiler. I personally like the racing look, it's just that it's done cheezy 90% of the time, because getting it right and using genuine race quality parts is not cheap. If it's going to have the look, it has to perform. Maybe I'll ship it to Europe one day and take a road trip, London, Paris, Madrid, Monaco, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Amsterdam. Take a couple months off. Stop off at Nürburgring.

Go spoilerless. I can't stand big wings on any car. That said, if I had a gun to my head and was told to choose one, it would for sure be the duckbill spoiler.

LW anything is horrible, but the duckbill looks much less retarded here...
