I've found a few on eBay under $10, but they show fitment for the V6. Do these work for the V8 as well or no? Don't want to spend $40-$50 bucks for just a.. dipstick as that seems ridiculous

A dipstick has all to do with length, if not the right length you can drive with less oil then needed or worse with to much oil and damage the engine.
but hey, you had a cheap dipstick right?

I can do that, I just can't see spending $40-50 plus shipping for a metal rod with plastic on it. I figured with all the different models this engine is offered in it seemed they were being priced for having 4 rings instead of the actual value.
    Thanks for the heads up

I understand that, and why I wanted to make sure. Just seems odd that I can get one for the V6 at $8 but the other is 4 times as much...I know it's an Audi it's just funny to me how some things are cheap and other things are insane. I know, I know.. welcome to the club

Yeah, sometimes the oddest items for this car (engine really) can cost more than it should.

In Canada from Audi it's about $65 for that dipstick. With shipping and duty it might be my best price.

You could always try and find a part out in your area. Should be cheaper that way.

Not anymore but in europe there was a different price tag on service hours at the dealer if you had an S car. if you wanted a cheap car this is not the one i can tell you.

Yeah I was expecting this, I can do all the labor work on it so I wasn't too concerned as I am a retired master mechanic, so parts is really my only cost. I'm loving it so far though
    Thanks for the feedback
