    Question Coolant Flush

The dealership performs what they called a coolant flush because the coolant was contaminated. However, the coolant looks the same as if they did not do anything. New coolant from Audi is pink.

From the photo, was a coolant flush done to you?

More than likely you hit XXX,XXX miles or Z years and they said time to change the coolant. They tell the consumer its contaminated to get them to fork over $500 in coolant and labor for really what was just $50-75 or so in coolant that can be done at home.

If you have a contamination concern, address that first. Otherwise drain and fill with vacuum tool. Done.

Hate to say it but theres nothing in the maintenance schedules that mentions a coolant flush. I would like for them to provide proof of that. Sounds like the dealership wanted to sell you something without actually figuring out the problem.

You are correct that it is not in the service schedule BUT it is still 1 of those things that should be done between 100K and 150K miles. My A7 is the only vehicle that I have owned now that it is not mentioned in the schedule.

Interesting about the coolant flush. My dealer said I should get it changed since it didn't look the right color.

I don't disagree once the vehicle gets up in mileage but there should be some justification for them to call for it to be flushed. Whether it is because the freezing point is measuring at -10C when where you live it gets to -30-40C or there is contamination. If they are recommending it because of contaminants there needs to be a root cause diagnosed.
