Do ECU tunes retain comfort / dynamic?

Just curious how the ecu/trans tunes feel in various drive modes? Are they impacted by mode selection? Currently running jb4 and although it’s awesome in dynamic, somewhat “frantic” feeling when I’m traffic, comfort mode, etc. Would love you tuned guy’s feedback!

APR stage 1 tune has very distinct Drive and Sport modes equivalent to OEM, just smoother shifting and a bit less lag - but these could have been the imagination's wishful thinking. Not at all like you are describing.

I'd love to hear details on what an ECU tune can actually do for the shifting - it's always remained vague.

The latest revision of the stage 2 034 tcu tunes are amazing. buttery smooth in comfort. neck breaking in dynamic+sport but only when you get deep into the gas pedal. Drives like a dream. You're selling yourself short with that JB4.

They do if you have a downpipe. Stage 1 tunes don’t do anything different than stock when it comes to emissions codes. if you have a hfc or a catless pipe, you’ll have a cel. If you get a stage 2 tune, rear o2 is coded out and you can run a catless pipe or hfc and not have a CEL or readiness errors

But who puts a downpipe on a Stage 1 tune? There is no performance benefit, it’s a complete waste of money.

If anyone is doing that they deserve the CEL.

And I assumed that was his situation lol. I assumed it was common knowledge that if a tune throws a cel just as a feature, there’s probably something wrong with the tune

I was just curious. Strongly considering their Stage 1 corn tune but didn’t want to deal with a consistent CEL being thrown.

I see lots of people running Stage 1 ECU/Stage 2 TCU. Does this create issues where the TCU is expecting certain torque ranges but the ECU is falling short?

If ur gonna run corn just get the stage 2 and throw on the cheap CTS catless DP. corn will absolutely destroy your cat. If you’re running a stock DP with a stage 1 tune I would stick to 91/93.

My stage 2 corn tune catless has less of a smell than stage 2 91 with a HFC did. If that’s what you’re worried about. Pump gas catless tho, yeah not recommended lol

Keep in mind, with 034’s Stage 1 tunes, the power numbers they advertise are on stock cars with no additional mods.

Adding an air intake and intercooler to a car with their Stage 1 tune gets you even more power, roughly 80% of the way to Stage 2.

Couldn’t agree more! Just installed my 034 Stage 1 93 tune and it feels much better in all mods. The launch is insane compared to stock! I dropped a full second on the 0-60.

Hey Hostile, what’s your experience been like with the jb4?

Good. Easy to pull off if it needs to go to the dealer and it makes almost as much power as an ECU tune. Definitely pick one up used, they go for $350-375 all day in the classifieds. IMO $700 is too much for it. That’s too close to ECU tune money.

As soon as my warranty is up (still have 3 years) I’ll be getting a ECU and TCU tune.

I have a JB4 coming in the mail next week until my warranty is up as well. How easy is it to change maps on the JB4? I don't come across 93 often, so I will be running Map2 but would love to test Map3 when I find a 93 station.

If you have the Bluetooth module it’s super easy, it’s just on your phone in their app.

If you bought the data cable and have to use a laptop it’s still easy, but you just need your laptop and have to plug directly into the box under the hood.

I would highly recommend getting the Bluetooth adapter and phone app if you will be switching maps frequently. Thankfully, 93 is plentiful here so I never have to change maps.

Perfect, I have the Bluetooth module coming with it. Can’t wait to receive and install it.

Are you experiencing the same power delivery as I am? Somewhat frantic with surges or is it pretty linear?
