    Knocking + vibration

    Hi!
Recently got myself an A4 2.0tfsi -2006 as a winter beater. Bought it with a faulty thermostat. I Changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, sparkplugs and ofc the thermostat. The thermostat did the job, Bang on 90*, BUT. when the car reached temp it was starting to knock really bad. There is no knock at all when engine is cold. The car is also vibrating pretty bad on idle, and sometimes gets shaky when letting of the throttle (when the rpm drops). I dont know if this is related to the problem but i also got a p0171 code. And to mention everything, i also got a whine noise on high rpm’s when accelerating..
I assume its the chain and tensioner, but before spending a lot of money getting the chain+Tensioner replaced i Want to see if anyone have an idea if it could be something else causing the problems.

Thanks in advance and sorry if my english spelling is bad. :)

    English is fine ..

these could be anything , you really need to run a diagnostic on this and see what is going on

knocking could be anything from engine mounts to rod bearings. vibrations could be misfires

I would pull all codes and definitely have the oil pressure checked, i wonder if you are losing oil pressure as the car warms up.

Thanks, ill see what data i can read with my tool.
Failed PCV could let coolant into oil right? I just replaced PCV and the old one had white sludge in it. Maybe good idea to look at the oil tomorrow..

no, the white sludge is just likely condensation nothing to worry about

all the pcv does is allow crankcase gasses back into the intake to be burned.

Like iceman said, check your oil pressure cold/hot idle, and through the rpm range. Esiest/best way, imo, is install an oil pressure gauge. Good to have anyway, and easy to monitor. I'd start there.

Bought an oil pressure guage today and i had great oil pressure on idle and through the rpm range. Im thinking of the vacuum pump as mine is probably bad (p0171 and rough idle) could it cause knocking?
