While driving home tonight I see smoke coming from the hood area and shortly after "Gearbox Malfunction: You Can Continue Driving" came on... so I immediately freaked out. Lucky I was just outside my sub-division, so I made it home. Between the time it came on and the very short drive things seemed to decline very fast. Sitting in my driveway I see transmission oil under the car which explains the smoke.
Does anyone have any tips on what I should look at first to try and determine the damage? I have read some post and see people talking about a crack in the filler cap and the filter housing cracking but seems maybe a pipe busted with oil dripping from the belly pan. I dont want to think it may be something that easy so wanted to see if anyone had some input on this type of thing. Car is a 2011 S4 with 135k miles. I will jack it up tomorrow and remove the pan to get a better look.
I don't have a vcds specific reader, but my generic reader had the code P0811 Excessive Clutch A Slippage and the EPC light is also on the dash.
