    P1639/18047 error - fixed

    Hi guys,

Looking for help with P1639/18048. Have had the problem since I got the car three years ago. Previous owner had same issue.

It’s intermittent and generally clears itself and all is good. EPC and traction lights are lit on the dash when error is on a runs on limp mode. It seems to be happening more lately.

I’ve search the forum and the only reference I can find is wet ECU box.

Error happens with stock tune, JHM tune or Jackal tune.

Car is B7 S4 Avant 6MT swapped. Problem was already there when it was Tip.

What’s been done. Mostly by previous owner.

    ECU swapped.
-JHM ECU with 91 & stock tune
-Jackal tune (different ECU from above)
    Accelerator pedal swapped
    Throttle body swapped.
Audi dealer rewired accelerator directly to ECU.
    Cleaned MAF
    O2 sensors replaced
    check ECU box/connectors - dry

    Appreciate any input from anyone.

Engine is healthy otherwise with recent timing chain & other service done. Really enjoy driving the car when it’s not in limp mode.

    Jerome

A short from cracked or flaking-off wire insulation, perhaps?
I'm still listening for that rattle!
If it rattles, it's because I baby it.

    Zolli,

    Thaks.
Besides the wiring harness from G79/G185 (accelerator pedal) to the ECU, any other wiring I should check?

I get this exact same code every time I go through certain car washes, along with an ABS code. It never comes up on its own (without me going through a car wash) so I just clear it when this comes up. I'd be interested to see where this thread goes...

That’s the first place I’d check. Can’t think of another at the moment

    Update:

Open the ECU box. Every is dry including the three connectors behind the ECU.

Trace the wirings from accelerator to the ECU. Note that dealer previously rewired directly bypassing T17e connector. Found one wire with exposed copper but it doesn’t seem to be shorting on anything. Wrapped with electrical tape for now.

Decided to unplug connectors. Found evidence of oxidation/corrosion on one of the pin in the T17e white connector. Didn’t notice this last time I check 3 months ago but it is hard to see. Cleaned with electrical cleaner.

    T17e pin oxidation/corrosion around 1 pin.

So far so good. No DTC after 100 miles. Hopefully this is the fix. Will update after a few hundred miles.

Just a quick update. All seems to be fixed. No DTC after a few hundred miles.

For those having same issue. It's difficult to see the sign of corrosion as it's a very tight spot and unless you have a small head or the hood is off. Use a mirror or a phone camera.
