Water leak. Is this the sunroof drains?

We just had a couple days of rain. My car is always outside and of course the sunroof was closed.

When I got in this morning the drivers side floor was wet just under the pedals and also up the side of the transmission tunnel. Not sure if the tunnel is wicki g as there is no moisture up high. On the end of the dash by the door, there is some water on the bottom of the dash above the dead pedal and also on the side trim but nothing on the inside of the dash is wet.

Is this from the sunroof drain?

I had an issue with the ECU cover leaking which resulted in damp carpet as you described. I replaced the cover in the engine bay and cleaned leaves, etc. No more leaks after that.

I think debris was not allowing the water to drain around the cover which eventually lead it leaking.

My car was leaking through the rubber grommet that holds the hood cable. Either way, if it sits outside I would take some weed eater line and snake your sunroof drains for piece of mind.

You have an A4 avant, and I have a 2013 allroad which both have the same sunroof frame. When I dropped my headliner, I saw it was wet and assumed a sunroof drain tube. Replaced it and my headliner, a-pillar, and my WeatherTech mats would have a small puddle of water. Eventually after checking audi-sport.net someone explained all the info about how the avant/allroad sunroof frame is made. The sunroof frame seems to be made up of multiple parts that are sealed together with something like SikaFlex. One part that is bonded onto the main frame is the bracket for the sunroof wind deflector hinge. I found it to be leaking there. For the time being, I put a piece of duct tape over my driverside wind deflector hinge bracket and it has stopped the water intrusion into the car. I've attached a photo here so you can see where exactly I put the duct tape. Check if it's your drain tubes, but if you find that it isn't the drain tubes then it's probably some part of your sunroof frame. The proper fix I assume is to drop the headliner, razorblade that old sealant out and separate the wind deflector hinge bracket, and reapply with new SikaFlex and let dry. This seems to be a somewhat common problem with these avant/allroad sunroof frames.

That is an interesting one. I did notice when I went through a carwash about 6 months ago that I got a couple of drips right above the steering wheel at the headliner/windshield joint. That area was dry today. I had disregarded it because I only go to a carwash about once or twice a year.

Couple options to look at this weekend, I'll post results.

I snaked my driver side drain yesterday between rain showers since I typically get water on the driver side and passenger side.
How far should the weed wacker wire go? First time it went about two and a half feet, then I was able to get it about 6 inches further then a third try about another 6 inches.

I assume if you push far enough it comes out the other end somewhere?

Open the drivers door and look at the lower A pillar just below the door wiring harness. You will see the opening to the sunroof drain.

I still think you should check the ECU cover in the engine bay. At least confirm the drain holes in the cowl are clear. Water backed up there on me a while ago with dampness in the same spots you describe.

After this next rain storm that is on the list.

Thanks. I was able to snake from the bottom and top, lots of "gunk" on the weed wacker wire, but never got the wire to come out the other end. We'll see over the next two days with the rains coming.
