Running a differnt sized tire than the other three on a Quattro

    Hello All,

So, this is likely a dumb question and will make a lot of you upset someone would even want to do this.
Yet, I have three new Dunlop Graspic DS-3's and one Dunlop Graspic DS-2 all 235/45R17 and I'd like to run them on my B7 Quattro because I can't seem to find another DS-3 anywhere.
Anyway, I know there have been a ton of tire size questions on here but they are trying to run different sized tires on the front and back. In my situation I'd have to run a slightly different tire from the other three. How stupid of an idea is this?

From what I've seen it is recommended to keep it within 3%, but I think this is front to back and not side to side. I've calculated the difference in diameter and they are only 0.39% which to me seems like it should be no issue, yet I don't want to do something really imbecilic.

    Thoughts?

If your calculation is the true difference, you're fine. May be larger / smaller depending on wear.

That percent difference is probably comparable to the effect of driving on a crested country road has on relative wheel speeds.

This is an enlightening article, particularly the fourth paragraph (that begins "As an example...") Full of good info.:

What it comes down to is strain/heat/wear to the differential.

Same size will be fine. Wanna keep all within 3/32 if possible. But rem, tires do wear at dif rates, and don't cause issues.

The 3% rule is both side to side or front to back.

Cant say if its good or not, but it would make my brain itch.
