Hi everyone. On another forum Im involved with, there are a couple of specialty tools that are passed around among the members for that once every 100k usage. Just pay postage and they show up. You break it, you replace it. Then, send it on or back to the owner.

I was wondering if anyone has the tools for the timing chain job and would be willing to lend them out? Just a thought.

The tools Im talking about are these...

I have this sethttps://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...l-kit-cta-2889 and it's more than enough to get the job done. Honestly the tool that sticks down behind the front cover 8064 - VW Chain Tensioner Lever is a bit overkill since you will probably want to do the balance shaft chain anyway.

My method for getting the lower cover off without bending it is to use a 2" drywall putty knife and use a hammer to gently get it through the silicone sealer. Then using the hammer and light taps use the knife to cut through the sealant all the way around the cover. Then just clean up the surfaces and reuse. I have done this now 5 times and no leaks. You can even buy a new crankshaft seal but be warned it is really stuck in the cover from the factory and the new one is a tight fit as well.

I have the tools, minus the tensioner lever, but share them with my dad (he technically bought them) so let me ask him if he's willing to share. I might even have a box that will fit that long ass crank holder lol.

Speaking of tools, do you have a decent set of triple square sockets? I have long, standard and stubby at this point and honestly the stubbys have been the best investment. They are the highest quality of the 3 and fit great Link

I did buy a set of triple squares. I appreciate the possible loaner but will probably just purchase the EBay listing above/below and offer them as a loaner once I'm done.

I'm doing the research and collecting parts. Hopefully will do the job during the break. I may fill and black out my grille while the front end is off too.

    Thanks.
