BFI Stage 1 Mounts. And Audi Dealership shenanigans.

Took advantage of Black Friday and ordered BFI Stage 1 kit. Holy crap do my my OEM motor mounts move...is not even funny how much movement they allow. The transmission mount just wiggle and wiggle with minimum shaking req.

Installation was straight forward. All do following MikTip advice...I use the OEM bolts instead of the supplied bolts that BFI provided.

Funny but not funny upon lifting the plastic wiring cover and accessing the 4 bolts that tighten the transmission mount to the chassis. Surprised buddy.... someone left a freaking Snapon 16mm socket inserted in one of the bolts. Why? Who knows...Some Audi dealership mechanic in a hurry. Now I'm speculating here base on the fact that all service history prior to me owning the vehicle is on record at Audi dealerships. I know it wasn't me I don't have Snapon tools. Lol I'm the second owner of the vehicle it is unclear and not listed in all the vehicle service history if the motor mounts where replace. I assume they did because why else there would be a Snapon socket there... is the first time I get there.

And that's why I do all the services and work myself. On the Plus side I earn a extra 16mm socket.

The BFI Stage 1 are great .
Smooth shifts like butter. Little added vibration introduced to the cabin so far.IMG_20221129_164233.jpgIMG_20221129_170524.jpgIMG_20221129_205410_01.jpg

Stage 3 being the solid delrin mounts? How was it driving around with the Stage 2 mounts? I have the Powerflex hybrid race puck and am surprised at how little NVH there is.

yes the new delrin mounts they make. i was asking for it way back when. they finally came out with it and I just had to wait for a sale. these things can get pricey as heck.

stage 2 is very livable on a daily car. i never track and never plan to but I do enjoy a good ride. the drivetrain slop everyone talks about is cleared up well with the stage 2 mounts. there is always nvh when doing things like this but its quickly adaptable to our senses. as humans we can adapt to pretty much anything and these are no exception. i would say its a surprise at first as I was adapted to the stock mounts. but also with stock mounts, it was way too soft. so expect a huge shock for some people. others ehhh. the fun factor increases from there. you feel like your less on a cloud and less floaty. if that's a good description..

with the random nvh people complain about when they do new mounts is most likely they didn't give it enough time to get used to. the other reason would be that they installed them wrong. or they are overly sensitive, that can happen. and again, nvh is and will be there when you swap out the mounts. personally I want the nvh. its fun. this amount of nvh is really perfect for 75% of the users out there.

for me I saw a huge gain in handling and I thought I could make it even better if there was a solid version but no one does that. there must be some play in the system or things will rattle out of control at that point.

i do have some powerflex bushings on the haldex. pretty soft after a while, rather I may have adapted to it. at this point, i feel that needs a solid mount for sure. huge gain there as well. but race level might not be even enough.

my set is to arrive on tues.

I have full exhaust system....so I don't really notice any added nvh. I just installed them this week do. But transmission shift are very very smooth. I don't feel the car going through the gears like with the OEM mounts. I heard it. Putting aside the horrible numb steering wheel feel. The car feels more connected it feels more tight in a good way. I'm very happy with the BFI Stage 1.

Just curious if you considered the 034 mounts, if so why BFI chosen?
(Someone told me to avoid BFI, though I don't know why, I believe it was the higher durometer rubber and ride maybe too hard, though that could be true of 034 mounts as well).

I choose the BFI base on feedback I got from a reliable source that has them and gave me feedback. I also like the fact that you could simply buy the inserts and go stage 2 or 3. But also the price compared to 034.

All good reasons! I think you convert the 034 from harder to softer, but not the other way.
They're kind of beautiful, but once installed, really won't see them...

Agree the 034 look fantastic. But yeah you only ended up seeing one. I also consider Revo and ECS what's stop me was they're design. They're mounts lacks the lateral support on the engine mount and I didn't like that. I'm sure they work but I didn't like it.
