    B9.5 SQ5 front plate relocation

Family is picking up a beautiful 2023 SQ5 that I have instructed them to request that the dealer does not install the front plate mount on (that requires you to drill into the grille).

Are there any other options for mounting the front plate without drilling? Any companies that make plate relocation kits for either the tow hook spot or maybe below the grille?

I haven’t been able to find much online, doesn’t seem like the facelift models have any other options.

If anyone here has tackled this, what did you do?

I know this doesn’t really answer your question, but I’d strongly consider not running a front plate at all. I never have in multiple different states and I have never gotten pulled over for it. When I have gotten pulled over, the front plate has never even been questioned. Best of luck with finding an option though if you’re set on mounting the front plate.

I’m definitely not set on it. I don’t run one on my B8.5 S4 and in the same state, but I also have gotten pulled over a fair amount for it. You also need it to pass inspection, but you could always temporarily zip tie it to the grille as I’ve done before.

I concur with this, but it really matters to where the OP lives and drives and parks.

I run no front plate here in CO, only heard shit things about front plate tickets in Denver proper (which I never go into); never had an issue

Yep. Leave it off unless you park on the street or need to park in downtown areas. I know a couple officers that have told me they don’t bother with that stuff anymore but parking is another story where they will get ya lol.

I've never run a front plate in my life. However my dad came back to his parked car in SF to find a fix it ticket for no front plate one time. This is the only example I've ever heard of in my life of someone getting a front plate ticket.

Anecdotal... but I've generally heard that parking in big cities is where people get hit this with. Specific police looking for parking violations

I have a Cravenspeed relocater. They didn’t have a fitment last year so it took a couple tries for them to get the post length correct.

Do you have a link to this? Can’t find it on their website, they only have up to 2017 Q5/SQ5 it appears. As for install, any specific method to remove the plastic cover for where the mount threads into? I don’t want to break it, is there a specific way you are supposed to pry it out?

There is no link, I just emailed them. I don’t know why they never added the B9 fitment to their website. You’ll have to email them. They should have the specs for what they ended up sending me that worked.

The cover just pops out. Push in one side. It’s glued in place so it can take a little effort.

Ditto- I live in CO as well. I have plates from 'customeuropeanplate.com' on my allroad and Q5 and C5 allroads before them. Never had an issue. However YMMV!

I’ve had one, and it’s $230 fine in WA state. More than speeding or no seat belt lol.

But ever since WA defunded the police and let the state turn into a free for all they don’t bother with petty crimes anymore. Haven’t had an issue with no plate on the R8 or the SQ since we’ve had em.

They'd be pulling over a ton of Euro cars in CO. However our 'bootlegged' plates all match the state plates, so there is that :-)
